The year-ending Grand Slam has a first-ever Polish winner.

The 2022 US Open is reaching the end of its multiple categories. Day 13 of the Grand Slam at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in New York City saw the conclusion of the Women’s Singles bracket. Iga Swiatek won her first-ever Grand Slam title after beating Ons Jabeur by 6-2, 7-6(7-5) in the final at the glorious Arthur Ashe Stadium.

By winning the US Open for the first time in her career, Iga Swiatek secures her second Grand Slam of the year. She won the Grand Slam after winning the 2022 French Open. It is also her third Grand Slam title overall, having won the French Open twice in 2020 and 2022. She also becomes the first Polish woman to win the US Open after becoming the first to win the French Open. Incidentally, she is also the first Polish woman to win a major singles title and now three Grand Slams.

She is only beginning and is showing total dominance across all courts in her brief career. It was an epic duel between Ons Jabeur and the eventual champion which went on for one hour and 51 minutes.

Disappointment for the Tunisian

Ons Jabeur is a trailblazer, who became the first-ever Tunisian and Arab player to reach the first major final at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships. Though she lost in the final to Elena Rybakina, there was hope that Jabeur would finally win her first-ever Grand Slam at the 2022 US Open. Unfortunately, she lost to the in-form top seed Iga Swiatek, losing her second Grand Slam final of the year.

However, there are several positives to take away for Ons Jabeur. The 28-year-old is showing incredible determination. The general feeling is that she will soon win a major title if her form remains consistent.

Mixed Doubles winners

The category of Mixed Doubles also came to an end on Day 13 at the 2022 US Open. Storm Sanders and John Peers defeated Kirsten Flipkens and Édouard Roger-Vasselin in the final to clinch the title. It took them an hour and 26 minutes to secure a 4-6, 6-4, (10-7) victory to be crowned champions.
