Jamine Paolini has now amassed 18 grand slam wins in 2024.
Italian tennis star Jasmine Paolini has made history by winning the most women’s singles Grand Slam matches by an Italian player in a calendar year during the Open Era. The 28-year-old’s remarkable 2024 season has put her in the record books.
With a total of 18 Grand Slam match victories in 2024, Paolini has set a new benchmark for Italian women’s tennis. This achievement surpasses previous records set by any Italian women’s singles tennis player.
Paolini’s impressive run includes reaching the fourth round in all four Grand Slam tournaments this year. Her consistent performance matches that of American sensation Coco Gauff, making them the only two women to achieve this feat in 2024.
In her latest triumph, Paolini secured her spot in the US Open 2024 fourth round for the first time with a convincing 6-3, 6-4 victory over 30th seed Yulia Putintseva. The match, played at Louis Armstrong Stadium, showcased Paolini’s powerful forehand, which accounted for 13 of her 22 winners.
The Italian had never advanced past the second round in 16 major tournaments before this season. However, Italian’s breakthrough year also saw her advance to the finals of both the French Open and Wimbledon. Although she finished as runner-up in both events. At Wimbledon, Paolini became the first Italian woman to reach the final in the Open Era.

Paolini’s success extends beyond Grand Slams. She clinched a prestigious WTA 1000 title at the Dubai Tennis Championships and reached a career-high world ranking of No. 5 in July 2024.
Paolini faces 2023 French Open finalist Karolina Muchova in the fourth round. A win would not only add to her record-breaking tally but also propel her into her first US Open quarterfinal.
