Novak Djokovic will be playing his first match as an Olympic champion at US Open 2024 .

Novak Djokovic will be charged up before he plays his opening match at the US Open 2024. The Olympic champion is making his 18th appearance at Flushing Meadows. After all these years, Djokovic shared that he has still got the drive in him and the competitive spirit on the court.

During a press conference of the US Open 2024 Pre-Tournament, Djokovic talked about his mindset. He said, ‘People ask me, Now that you have basically won everything with the golden medal, what else is there to win? I still feel the drive, you know I still have the competitive spirit. I still want to make more history and enjoy myself on the tour.’

The veteran also shared that he wants to inspire the next generation to pick up the sport. The next generation of players have already been motivated by his presence. Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have talked about how Djokovic’s determination has helped them raise their own game on the court.

At 37 years of age, Djokovic is ready to continue his record breaking journey on the court. He is aiming to win his first grand slam of the season and a historic 25th overall. Records await Djokovic as his younger rivals will hope to deny him a title at New York.

Novak Djokovic hoping to defend his title at US Open 2024

Djokovic is hoping to become the first man since Roger Federer in 2008 to defend his US Open title. The Serbian had two chances in the past to repeat Federer’s record at the event. The first chance came during the 2012 US Open where he lost the final in five sets against Andy Murray.

In 2016, Djokovic was again in the final but this time lost to Stan Wawrinka in four sets. This time, the world No # 2 will hope to successfully defend his title. He is yet to win an ATP tour title this season and that could change in the coming weeks at New York.

Djokovic will open his US Open 2024 campaign against Moldovan Qualifier Radu Albot at the Arthur Ashe stadium.
