2020 US Open champion Dominic Thiem will play his last Grand Slam before retiring.
The wildcards for the 2024 US Open have been announced. The 2024 edition of the Grand Slam is scheduled to take place from August 26 to September 8.
Dominic Thiem, who will retire from the sport at the age of 30, has received a wildcard at the US Open after being snubbed at the French Open in May. The Austrian is playing his last Grand Slam and he’s also a former champion at Flushing Meadows.
Meanwhile, the United States Tennis Association (USTA) has also named former champion Stan Wawrinka of Switzerland in the main draw of the Grand Slam. Wawrinka is a former ATP World No. 3 and will make his 72nd appearance in the main draw of a Grand Slam.
Of the eight men listed, four are American, which are Christopher Eubanks, Learner Tien, Zachary Svajda and Matthew Forbes. On the other side, two-time US Open champion Naomi Osaka has also received a wildcard at Flushing Meadows. Osaka played minimal tennis in the last few years due to pregnancy and mental health reasons.

In addition to that, she also lost in qualifying for this week’s ongoing Cincinnati Open. Alongside the Japanese, the 2019 champion Bianca Andreescu has also been given a wildcard by the United States Tennis Association. Andreescu missed nine months last year with a back injury before returning this year at the French Open.
Much like the men’s singles wildcards, the women’s singles also have four American tennis stars. Coco Gauff will be looking forward to defending her title at the 2024 US Open. Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic is expected to return to safeguard his accolade by winning his 25th Grand Slam title after missing the Canadian Open and the Cincinnati Masters.
