In the third round, he overpowered Luciano Darderi 6-3, 6-4, 6-0, continuing the ruthless form.

However, his next match poses a tougher challenge. He faces Jiri Lehecka, the same opponent who eliminated him at the Doha quarter-finals earlier this year, with the score of 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Alcaraz did exact revenge in the Queen’s Club final in June, winning 7-5, 6-7(5), 6-2.

Meanwhile, the 23-year-old Czech star Lehecka too is in solid form but has faced some scares in New York. He opened with a four-set win over Borna Coric 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(5), 6-1, then beat Tomas Martin Etcheverry 3-6, 6-0, 6-2, 6-4.

In the third round, he dominated Raphael Collignon 6-4, 6-4, 6-4, before surviving a scare against Adrian Mannarino 7-6(4), 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.

But Lehecka is ready to face the five-time Grand Slam champion Alcaraz, fully aware of the challenge ahead. “Against a player like Carlos, you need to bring your best,” Lehecka said after his Round of 16 win over Mannarino.

“It’s not just about playing one particular shot because he knows how to react. You need to be focused the entire match and bring your A-game throughout.”

The two have met only thrice before in their career, out of which Carlos Alcaraz emerged victorious twice leading the head-to-head record 2-1 against Jiri Lehecka.
