Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic has yet to return to action since his heartbreak at Wimbledon 2025, where the 24-time Grand Slam champion fell to current World No. 1 Jannik Sinner in the semifinals in straight sets.
Fans were hoping that the Serbian would get back into his old rhythm with a warm-up at the Cincinnati Open, but he decided not to participate in the competition. That leaves one big question hanging: will Djokovic play in the US Open?
The 38-year-old has taken a long summer break since his run at the All England Club, skipping all the pre–US Open warm-up tournaments. He has been spotted vacationing in Croatia and Greece, spending time with family, friends, and even joining TikTok trends with cool videos.
However, all signs now point to his return to Flushing Meadows. The four-time US Open champion has been seen practicing on hard courts. Olly Tennis posted a video on X showing him in full training mode, captioned: “Novak Djokovic getting ready for the US Open.”
The last time Djokovic missed the US Open was in 2022, when his unvaccinated status against COVID-19 prevented him from traveling to the United States. The ban had also forced him to miss the Australian Open earlier that year. Before that, in 2017, he sat out the tournament due to an elbow injury.

In 2024, Djokovic’s run at Flushing Meadows ended in the third round, when he was upset by 26-year-old Australian Alexei Popyrin in four sets, 4-6, 4-6, 6-2, 4-6.
Form has been hard to come by for the Serbian great in 2025. His lone title so far came at the ATP 250 Geneva Open. At the Australian Open, he ended his campaign in the semifinals against Alexander Zverev due to a walkover.
At Roland Garros, he fell to Sinner in the semifinals, and at Wimbledon, he suffered the same fate — losing again to the Italian in straight sets.
The US Open 2025 will start on August 24, just a week after the conclusion of the Cincinnati Masters. Novak Djokovic is also set to team up with fellow Serbian Olga Danilović in the mixed doubles championship.
