Two men’s singles semi-finals will take place on Friday.
Defending champion Novak Djokovic has reached his 10th Wimbledon semi-final. The Serb is looking to equal Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal's record for most Grand Slam victories (20). Djoker had beaten Hungary's Marton Fucsovics in straight-set 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 in the quarter-finals.
His opponent in the last four will be Denis Shapovalov. The 10th seed Canadian had come out on top in a hard-fought quarter-final against Karen Khachanov. He won the first set, suffered a mini-slump and then finished the match on a high. In the end, the scoreline read 6-4, 3-6, 5-7, 6-1, 6-4 in favour of Shapovalov.
Novak Djokovic looks like a man on a mission in the ongoing grass court Grand Slam. He comfortably defeated the Hungarian, who was the only unseeded player left in the men’s singles event, in his previous match. It was Djokovic’s 12th Wimbledon quarterfinal match. Fucsovics did win a 21-stroke rally in the first set and performed commendably in the second and third. Ultimately, the Serbian clinched the contest in straight sets to record his 100th tour win on grass.
In the other Wimbledon semi-final, Matteo Berrettini will take on the surprise package Hubert Hurkacz. The seventh seed Berrettini continued his strong run, by beating Felix Auger Aliassime 6-3, 5-7, 7-5, 6-3 in a cagey affair.
The Italian will face the challenge of World No. 18 Hubert Hurkacz. The Pole had famously knocked out his idol Roger Federer in the previous round. The 24-year-old was unfazed by the challenge and went onto secure a stunning 6-3, 7-6, 6-0 straight-set victory. Hurkacz is the first player to beat Roger Federer in straight sets at Wimbledon in 19 years.
