Novak Djokovic, Sania Mirza record wins at 2022 Wimbledon
The record for all-time aces has been broken which was earlier set at 13,728.
The tennis action at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships is getting hot and fiery. On Friday, plenty of noteworthy results took place and John Isner set a new all-time record. The American successfully broke the all-time aces record during his third-round match against Jannik Sinner. He broke Ivo Karlovic’s tally of 13,728 aces but could not make his way into the fourth round. Italy’s Skinner was too good for Isner and took the victory by a 6-4, 7-6(7-4), 6-3 score.
In other notable matches across the board, Novak Djokovic eased past his opponent to reach the fourth round. The top seed in Men’s Singles beat Miomir Kecmanović thanks to a 6-0, 6-3, 6-4 score. It took the Serbian only one hour and 53 minutes to win in straight sets.
A moment of joy for the Indian tennis enthusiasts saw Sania Mirza move into the next round in Mixed Doubles. The legendary Indian tennis star and six-time Grand Slam winner partnered with Mate Pavic. Sania Mirza and Mate Pavic were anything but comfortable in their win against David Vega Hernandez of Spain and Natela Dzalamidze of Georgia. In the end, Mirza and her partner won the contest by 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(10-3).
Angelique Kerber and Maria Sakkari crash out
Maria Sakkari, the fifth seed in the Women’s Singles bracket was at the receiving end of an upset on Friday. Tatjana Maria of Germany, who is 103 in WTA world rankings, beat the Greek star by a 6-3, 7-5 score.
Former World No.1 in Women’s Singles, Angelique Kerber lost her third-round fixture at Wimbledon 2022. The three-time Grand Slam winner lost to Elise Mertens of Belgium. The 24th seed emerged victorious by a 6-4, 7-5 against the 15th seed.
Key results elsewhere
Ons Jabeur of Tunisia, the third seed in Women’s Singles, made her way into the fourth round. The World No.2 eased past Diane Parry of France in straight sets after a 6-2, 6-3 victory. Carrying British hopes, Heather Watson has reached the fourth round by beating Kaja Juvan of Slovenia by a 7-6(8-6), 6-2 score on the board.
Carlos Alcaraz of Spain, the fifth seed also marched into the fourth round of Wimbledon. The 19-year-old got the better of Oscar Otte by a 6-3, 6-1, 6-2 score in merely one hour and 38 minutes. Ninth seed Cameron Norrie of the UK cruised past Steve Johnson of the USA by 6-4, 6-1, 6-0 in straight sets.
Doubles Action
Third seeds in Men’s Doubles, Wesley Koolhof of the Netherlands and Neal Skupski recorded a 7-6(8-6), 6-2, 7-6(7-4) win over Pedro Martinez of Spain and John-Patrick Smith of Australia. In the Women’s Doubles, second seeds from the Czech Republic, Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova secured a 7-6(10-8), 6-3 win against Anett Kontaveit of Estonia and Shelby Rogers of the United States of America.
In Mixed Doubles of Wimbledon 2022, fifth seeds Marcelo Arevalo of El Salvador and Giuliana Olmos of Mexico lost to the unseeded pair of Jonny O'Mara and Alicia Barnett from the United Kingdom.
