Novak Djokovic will face Nick Kyrgios at the grand final of Wimbledon 2022
The reigning champion is one step away from retaining his title and a fourth consecutive championship win.
The 2022 edition of the Wimbledon Championships is heading into its last few days. Several days of fantastic action at the All England Club in Wimbledon, London has kept the fans satisfied. The Grand Slam is nearing the curtain dropper that is the Men’s Singles final on Sunday. World No.3 in Men’s Singles ATP rankings, Novak Djokovic will meet the exceptional Nick Kyrgios in a blockbuster final to decide the winner of this year’s tournament in this particular category.
The top seed in Men’s Singles, Djokovic had to come from a first-set deficit against Cameron Norrie to eventually secure his place in the final. It took the Serbian a total of two hours and 35 minutes to beat the United Kingdom star by a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 score. The 20-time Grand Slam winner will be aiming for a seventh Wimbledon title when he takes to the court on Sunday against Nick Kyrgios.
The Australian on the other hand got a walkover bye into the final after Rafael Nadal withdrew from the tournament because of an abdominal tear. He becomes the first-ever individual to get a walkover into a Grand Slam final in the Open Era. It will be interesting to see how the clash between two of the most peculiar personalities in world tennis turns out at the Centre Court.
Dominance from the Djoker
Cameron Norrie began the tie all guns blazing. He showed incredible finesse and power in his stroke play. Completely catching the six-time Wimbledon champion, the ninth seed secured the first set 6-2. The 26-year-old was playing his first-ever semi-final at a Grand Slam. Backed by the home crowd, Norrie was ready for the occasion.
However, that is when Novak Djokovic took his game up a few levels. Expectedly, the 35-year-old did not let his opponent settle into the game and took the next three sets convincingly. Eventually, he came away as a clear winner over Cameron Norrie.
Key Results Elsewhere
There were notable matches in the Women’s Doubles category on Friday at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships. Top seeds Elise Mertens of Belgium and Shuai Zhang of China reached the final of their bracket. They beat the American pair of Danielle Collins and Desirae Krawczyk by 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 inside one hour and 46 minutes.
Second seeds in Women’s Doubles, Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic made their way into the final. The pair got the better of Lyudmyla Kichenok of Ukraine and Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia by a 6-2, 6-2 scoreline.
It is worth noting that this pairing has only lost one set on its way to the final. However, they will be facing the top seeds in the final fixture for the title. The contest between the two best-seeded pairs will take place on Sunday at the Centre Court.
