Andy Murray aims to play Wimbledon for one last time.
Three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray has provided an update about his injury and status of playing at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships.
Last week, Murray revealed that he’s aiming to retire from tennis at either the 2024 Wimbledon or the Paris Olympics. However, the 37-year-old suffered a back injury during his second round match against Jordan Thompson at the Queen’s Club Championships.
Due to the injury, the two-time Wimbledon champion had to retire from the grass court ATP 500 event and also undergo a surgical procedure for his back. Since then, his participation at the upcoming 2024 Wimbledon Championships has been uncertain.
Earlier this week, the ATP took to social media and announced that the two-time Olympic gold medalist wouldn’t be able to participate at the grass court Grand Slam. Nevertheless, as per the Sun, the post was later deleted at the request of Andy Murray’s team.
According to the BBC, Andy Murray hadn’t said anything about his participation at Wimbledon. However, the British tennis star has spoken about the issue. The 37-year-old is recovering from the back surgery and he’s keen to participate at the tournament. However, nothing can be assured as of now.

He said (via Wimbledon), “The rate that I’m improving just now, if that was to continue then an extra 72 to 96 hours makes a huge difference. It’s complicated and it’s made more complicated because I want to play at Wimbledon one more time.’
He added, “I want to have that opportunity to play the tournament and I know that some people might look at that and say, withdrawing from a tournament late at the last minute or something like that isn’t the right thing to do, even though it happens every single week on the tour.”
Before the injury, he was also looking forward to playing doubles with his brother Judie Murray. However, it would also be possible if he recovered from the injury on time. He’s also expected to play at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Murray has been named in Great Britain’s team for the Paris Games alongside Cameron Norrie, Jack Draper and Daniel Evans.
