Daniil Medvedev and Jannik Sinner will face each other for the first time on the grass at the 2024 Wimbledon.
Russian tennis star Daniil Medvedev has stated that he will play his best tennis against Jannik Sinner in the quarter-finals at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships.
Last year, Daniil Medvedev reached the semi-finals at the Wimbledon Championships, where he suffered a loss against eventual runner-up Novak Djokovic. This year, the Russian tennis star has recorded wins over Aleksandar Kovacevic, Alexandre Müller and Jan-Lennard Struff in the three initial rounds.
Moreover, Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov retired in the first set after he slipped in the fourth round. Interestingly, Medvedev will play a rematch of the 2024 Australian Open final against Jannik Sinner in the next round at the All England Lawn Tennis Club.
Medvedev and Sinner have faced each other 11 times on the tour. Moreover, five of their 11 meetings have taken place in the final of a tournament. The Russian tennis star won the initial six matches in the rivalry, while Sinner has won the last five matches between the two.
The two tennis stars have already faced each other twice in 2024 too. Medvedev lost in the final at the 2024 Australian Open in five sets against Sinner. Later, he lost again against Sinner in the semi-finals at the Miami Open. Thus, recalling his last five losses against the World No. 1, Medvedev stated that he will give his 100% in the Wimbledon quarter-final.
He said in the post-match interview, “I need to play my best tennis. He got me like the last five times I think. If I’m not mistaken, four of them were really tough. In the last one, he kind of won easy. So, I’m going to try to play my best tennis. It’s the first time we meet on grass. It’ll be an interesting battle. I’ll go there and give my 100%”
Jannik Sinner started his 2024 Wimbledon Championships campaign against Germany’s Yannick Hanfmann with a four-set victory. In the second round, he won three tiebreakers against Matteo Berrettini to win the match. He stunned Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanović to win in three sets and reach the fourth round.
In the fourth round, he defeated American tennis star Ben Shelton to secure a berth in the quarter-finals at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships.
