Elena Rybakina has won three WTA titles and also missed the tournament in 2024.
Kazakhstan’s Elena Rybakina has stated that she only aims to win her next match instead of the title.
Elena Rybakina defeated former World No. 3 Elina Svitolina in the quarter-finals at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships on Wednesday. The match was expected to be a close contest; however, it turned out to be a one-sided affair, as Rybakina dominated massively on her serve.
The likes of Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff were expected to reach the semi-finals at the grass court major following their recent form. However, both tennis stars suffered shocking defeats in the third and fourth rounds respectively.
With that, Elena Rybakina is the highest-ranked player remaining in the women’s singles event at the All England Lawn Tennis Club. Thus, after her win over Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina, she was asked her opinion about being the people’s favourite to win the Championships.
In response to the question, she stated that she was only looking forward to her next match. Rybakina affirmed that she has an aggressive style of play and dominates matches on her serve.
She said, “I also don’t like it to be honest. I have an aggressive style of game. I have a huge serve. It’s a big advantage. Of course, I want to go til the end. Match-by-match. For now, I’m happy with the way I’m going. Looking forward to the next one.”
In the semi-finals, the Kazakh tennis star will face the Czechia’s Barbora Krejcikova. The 2022 Wimbledon champion has only dropped a single set on her way to the semi-finals. She lost the only set against German veteran Laura Siegemund in the second round. As per the rankings, after Rybakina, Jasmine Paolini is the second favourite to lift the Wimbledon title.
Paolini will face Croatia’s Donna Vekic in the semi-finals at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. Interestingly, Paolini defeated Rybakina in the quarter-finals at Roland-Garros in June. She reached her first singles Grand Slam final at the French Open, where she lost against four-time champion Iga Swiatek. However, Jasmine Paolini has been in decent form on the green surface too.
