A second Wimbledon trophy is on the horizon for Elena Rybakina.

Elena Rybakina is comfortably poised to add to her silverware at Wimbledon 2024. The Kazakh overcame former World No. #1 Caroline Wozniacki 6-0, 6-1 in just 57 minutes, producing 36 winners in her third-round match. She is the only remaining Wimbledon finalist left in the draw after two-time finalist Ons Jabeur went down to Elina Svitolina in straight sets on Saturday.

Rybakina won the Wimbledon ladies’ singles trophy in 2022, defeating Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur to lift her maiden Grand Slam trophy. The World No. #4 reached the last eight last season. The 25-year-old from Kazakhstan is in contention for a third consecutive quarter-final spot when she takes on Anna Kalinskaya in the fourth round.

Kalinskaya, the Australian Open quarterfinalist this year, ended Liudmila Samsonova’s Wimbledon run with a 7-6(4), 6-2 win in an hour and 37 minutes. Kalinskaya’s third-round win over her fellow Russian gives the World No. #18 her first trip into Wimbledon’s second week and a fourth-round debut.

Elena Rybakina vs Anna Kalinskaya preview

The beginning of Wimbledon’s second week finds itself empty of its top draws. Aryna Sabalenka withdrew even before the event got underway, nursing a shoulder injury. Defending champion Marketa Vondrousova was knocked out in the opening round, only the second time this has happened at Wimbledon in the Open Era since Steffi Graf’s first-round loss in 1994.

Yesterday, Yulia Putintseva stunned the reigning French Open champion and top seed Iga Swiatek in three sets to deny the Pole a channel slam.

The string of high-profile exits leaves Rybakina holding the fort along with Coco Gauff as the only players left among the top five seeds. Fourth-seeded Rybakina is the highest seed left in the draw’s top half, while Gauff, seeded second, takes on that role in the draw’s bottom half.

If seedings hold, Rybakina will face 2017 Roland Garros titlist Jelena Ostapenko in the semifinals, while Gauff could take on Emma Raducanu, who is unseeded but is a former US Open champion. Home hope Raducanu won the US Open trophy in 2021 as a teenage qualifier.

Head-to-head records

Matches – 4

Elena Rybakina – 2

Anna Kalinskaya – 2

Rybakina and Kalinskaya have played each other four times on the WTA Tour, with each player sharing the spoils equally. The Russian retired from their most recent match in Rome last season but won their previous full-length match at Madrid in the same year.

Where and how to watch live streaming and TV broadcast of Elena Rybakina vs Anna Kalinskaya, Wimbledon 2024 fourth-round match in India?

Elena Rybakina and Anna Kalinskaya square off for the first time this season. The fourth round match will be available for Indian viewers on mainstream broadcaster Star India and premium streaming service Disney+ Hotstar.

Prediction

Elena Rybakina will have to be wary of giant-killer Anna Kalinskaya when the duo cross paths in the round of 16. The Russian took down three top 10 opponents in back-to-back matches at the 2024 Dubai Tennis Championships among the seven this year. Kalinskaya’s victims at the desert event were Jelena Ostapenko (9), Coco Gauff (3) and Iga Swiatek (1). The tournament’s 17th seed is 7-2 against players in the WTA top 10 this year.

Wimbledon is a happy hunting ground for Rybakina, and the 2022 champion will back herself to pick up another women’s singles trophy at the prestigious event. The No. #4 seed has a 17-2 record at the All England Club.

Kalinskaya arrived at Wimbledon on the back of a final run at the ecotrans Ladies Open, where she lost to Jessica Pegula for the second time in her career. Rybakina’s lack of preparation on grass – retired from her quarterfinal at Berlin against Victoria Azarenka — does not seem to affect her.

While the Russian has moved to 7-1 on grass courts in 2024, Rybakina, trailing at 4-1, was once again affected by health issues at the ecotrans Ladies Open.

Despite the setback, Rybakina leads the field with 267 aces at this point of the 2024 season. The Kazakh has won 79.7% of her service games and has a 39-7 record this year. Kalinskaya has pocketed 73.9% of service games played, coupled with a 28-12 win-loss.

Result: Elena Rybakina to win in three sets.
