Apart from Emma Raducanu, Andy Murray is also playing men’s doubles with Jamie Murray.

Former US Open champion Emma Raducanu has stated that playing mixed doubles alongside Andy Murray at Wimbledon is a dream opportunity.

On Wednesday, it was announced that Emma Raducanu will team up with three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray to play in the mixed doubles event at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships.

On Tuesday, it was revealed by the Scotsman that he wouldn’t be participating in the men’s singles event at the grass court Grand Slam. Nevertheless, the British pair expected the wildcard in the mixed doubles event. Murray and Raducanu will face Marcelo Arevalo and Zhang Shuai in the second round at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships on Friday, July 5.

However, Emma Raducanu is also playing women’s singles and she has reached the third round at the Grand Slam. She recorded a resounding victory over Mexico’s Renata Zarazua in her opening round fixture on July 1.

She continued her winning momentum by defeating Belgium’s Elise Mertens 6-1, 6-2 in the second round on Wednesday. After the win, she was asked how she feels about playing alongside Andy Murray at the 2024 Wimbledon. Raducanu stated that it’s a dream opportunity for her, as she has grown up watching the 37-year-old play.

She said, “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity; a dream of mine since I was a young girl watching the Olympics. Andy is a hero to all of us – it’s a real gift and a real honour that he asked me and it’s a moment that I could never say no to.”

However, Emma Raducanu has her biggest challenge awaiting her in the third round. She will face ninth seed Maria Sakkari next. The Greek tennis star stunned Mccartney Kessler and Arantxa Rus in the initial rounds.

Nevertheless, the 21-year-old, who underwent three surgeries last year, has reached the third round at a Grand Slam for the first time since the 2021 US Open. Interestingly, Raducanu defeated Sakkari in the semi-finals at the 2021 US Open. Moreover, it’s the first time since the Australian Open in 2022 that Maria Sakkari has reached the third round at a Grand Slam.
