'They’ve been supporting me forever' - Jasmine Paolini thanks her family after Wimbledon 2024 SF win

Jasmine Paolini is the first Italian woman to reach the Wimbledon final.
Italian tennis star Jasmine Paolini thanked her family for watching her match after she defeated Donna Vekic in a three-set thriller at Wimbledon 2024 on Thursday.
Jasmine Paolini faced Croatia’s Donna Vekic in the semifinals of Wimbledon 2024 Championships. Paolini, who never made it to the third round of a Grand Slam before 2024, is already a two-time Major finalist. Positively, tennis enthusiasts can also witness her winning her first Grand Slam title on July 13.
Facing Vekic, Paolini lost the first set 2-6 in 36 minutes. However, the Italian pushed Vekic to her limits and won the second set by breaking the Croatian’s serve in the last game 6-4. Paolini lost her serve in the first game of the third set.
Nevertheless, she resisted the pressure and broke Vekic’s serve later but the match stood equal as both tennis stars converted two break points. Being forced into the tiebreak, both WTA stars were putting up a spectacle for the tennis world with emotions flowing on both sides.

Vekic was seen crying between the sets while at the same time, Paolini was smiling. Nevertheless, the match ended after two hours and 51 minutes, becoming the longest women’s semi-final in Wimbledon history. Throughout the match, the camera was focused multiple times on her family.
Thus, after the match, she decided to address her family. She stated that the close encounter was a rollercoaster of emotions for her and she thanked her family for watching the whole match from her box.
She said in the post-match interview, “I think it’s not easy for the family to watch a match like this. It was a rollercoaster of emotions. I’m so grateful they were here. They’ve been supporting me forever. I’m just so grateful to have them here watching.”
In the final of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, the 28-year-old Italian tennis star will face Czechia’s Barbora Krejcikova on July 13. Barbora Krejcikova defeated fourth-seeded Elena Rybakina in the second semifinal in another three-setter.
