Jelena Ostapenko reached the semifinals of the Wimbledon Championships in 2018.
American rapper Lil Wayne recently took to social media and lavished praise on Latvian tennis star Jelena Ostapenko after she defeated Yulia Putintseva on Monday.
Jelena Ostapenko faced Yulia Putintseva in the fourth round of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. Facing the Kazakh, Ostapenko recorded a comfortable 6-2, 6-3 victory. The Latvian broke Putintseva’s serve five times and smashed three aces.
Additionally, the WTA World No. 14 scored 29 winners, compared to Yulia Putintseva’s nine. However, her unforced errors were also 26 while Putintseva only made nine. After the win, American rapper Lil Wayne, who’s famous for his music, took to X (formerly Twitter) and lauded the 27-year-old for her performance. He wrote, “Jelena Jelena Jelena!!! I am and I been a huge fkn fan!!! a joy to watch…EVERY TIME!”
Jelena Ostapenko has dropped only 15 games on her way to the quarterfinals of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, which is the fewest by any player since 2012. Belarusian tennis star Victoria Azarenka reached the quarterfinals of the grass court Major in 2012 after dropping only 14 games.
Ostapenko will face the Czech Republic’s Barbora Krejcikova in the quarterfinals of the Wimbledon Championships on Wednesday. Apart from Lil Wayne, American actor Matthew McConaughey also lauded Danielle Collins and Tommy Paul recently.
However, Collins suffered a disappointing loss against Krejcikova in the round of 16 on Monday. The Interstellar actor wrote on social media for the 2022 Australian Open runner-up, “Danielle Collins is one of the secretly great sport/life stories of 2024. Major proof of ‘1st time’s the last’ mental state.”
Matthew McConaughey also praised the 2024 Queen’s Club Championships winner Tommy Paul. He wrote, “@TommyPaul1 into week 2 @Wimbledon . Roof raising. Fly TP.”
Tommy Paul has reached the quarterfinals of the Championships, where he will face the defending champion Carlos Alcaraz. Paul has recorded wins over the likes of Pedro Martinez, Otto Virtanen, Alexander Bublik, and Roberto Bautista Agut on his way to the quarterfinals.
