Novak Djokovic will face Great Britain’s Jacob Fearnley in the next round.
Novak Djokovic recently addressed Nick Kyrgios’s injury during his post-match interview on Tuesday.
The Serbian tennis star defeated the Czech Republic’s Vit Kopriva in the first round of the Wimbledon 2024 Championships in straight sets on Tuesday. A week ago, it seemed like the Serb would miss the grass court Major; however, he made it on time and got a dominant start to his Wimbledon campaign.
After the win, Novak Djokovic compared his health condition with that of other tennis stars. He stated that he has suffered numerous injuries; as a result, he has learned to accept them. Interestingly, he also addressed Australian tennis star Nick Kyrgios’s injury.
Kyrgios, who was sitting in the commentary box, faced Djokovic in the final of Wimbledon 2022. Djokovic said, “I’ve been fortunate comparing myself to other 37-year-olds. I had injuries like anybody else, but they come and go. It’s part of what you do.”
He added, “You just have to accept it and embrace it. I think Nick Kyrgios is in the commentary box. He’s been struggling a lot with injuries. Talking about major injuries he’s had a few. I’ve been very fortunate to not be away from tennis for long.

The 37-year-old said that he can empathize with everyone who’s suffering the injuries. He further said, “As an athlete I empathize with Nick and anyone who’s struggling. You almost feel helpless at times that something isn’t allowing you to come back to what you love most and you’re unable to do your profession for years.”
After the interview, Kyrgios took to social media and uploaded a post mentioning the 37-year-old. The Aussie stated that he’ll play some tennis alongside Novak Djokovic. He wrote (on X), “Hitting with Novak tomorrow on his day off feel like a little kid again…. Feeling excited. Long way back from this surgery!”
Novak Djokovic will face Great Britain’s Jacob Fearnley in the next round of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. The Serbian tennis star has 1300 points to defend at the grass-court Grand Slam. Additionally, he’s also aiming to equal Roger Federer’s record of eight men’s singles titles.
