Andy Murray withdrew from the men’s singles event on Tuesday.

Andy Murray and Emma Raducanu will play in the mixed doubles event at the Wimbledon 2024 Championships.

The British pair have accepted the wildcard, and they’ll be soon playing in the mixed doubles event at the All England Lawn Tennis Club. Andy Murray is looking forward to maximizing his presence and chances to play at the Wimbledon 2024 after he withdrew from the singles event.

Murray suffered a back injury in the second round of the 2024 Queen’s Club Championships against Australia’s Jordan Thompson. He decided to take a medical timeout; however, the Scotsman was later forced to retire from the match. He underwent a surgical procedure on his back for a spinal lump.

As a result, he won’t be playing at the men’s singles event at Wimbledon 2024, which is expected to be his last Grand Slam. Last month, the 37-year-old announced that he would announce his retirement from professional tennis at Wimbledon or the Paris Olympics.

Murray last partnered with Serena Williams in 2019 Wimbledon to play mixed doubles. The pair was eliminated in the third round of the Grand Slam. Thus, after four years, tennis enthusiasts will witness the Scotsman in doubles action again.

Emma Raducanu defeated Mexico’s Renata Zarazúa in the first round of the grass-court Major in straight sets. After the win, she talked about Murray’s influence on her. She said, “I think the biggest advice is just how he’s always taken care of his operations, how he manages his people. I haven’t really spoken to him so much.”

Raducanu added, “I think for me it’s just watching him operate day to day, watching him be absolutely on it with everything. Even in practice now, he’s so on it to the minute. I think me, when I was a bit younger maybe, showing up 15 minutes before practice to do a few arm curls, swing my hand around and warm up. He’s there for an hour and a half doing treatment. He just sets really good examples.”

Apart from mixed doubles, Andy Murray will also play men’s doubles alongside his brother Jamie Murray for the first time at Wimbledon.
