Mirra Andreeva can equal Maria Sharapova's stunning record at Wimbledon 2024

Mirra Andreeva reached the semi-finals of the 2024 French Open.
Russian prodigy Mirra Andreeva can equal five-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova’s record of becoming the joint-second youngest tennis player to win a Wimbledon title.
Mirra Andreeva enjoyed a breakthrough campaign at the 2024 French Open. The Russian tennis star reached the semifinals of Roland Garros with wins over the likes of Victoria Azarenka and Aryna Sabalenka. She also reached the quarterfinals of the Madrid Open earlier, where she lost against Sabalenka.
However, Andreeva lost in the first round of the Bad Homberg Open against Ukraine’s Dayana Yastremska in three sets. Seeded 24th, she will start her Wimbledon 2024 campaign against the Czech Republic’s Brenda Fruhvirtova.
Meanwhile, former Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova was only 17 years and 75 days old when she won the 2004 Wimbledon, which was also her first Grand Slam title. Interestingly, on July 13, when the final of the 2024 Wimbledon will take place, Andreeva will also be 17 years and 75 days old.
Thus, if the 2024 French Open semi-finalist wins the Wimbledon Championships, she will become the second youngest female tennis player to win Wimbledon in the Open era. Martina Hingis tops the list as she won her first Wimbledon singles title in 1997 at the age of 16 years, 278 days.

Meanwhile, Andreeva’s arch-rival Belarusian tennis star, Aryna Sabalenka, has withdrawn from the 2024 Wimbledon Championships after her medical team advised her to avoid action. She earlier stated that he’s suffering from a ‘rare shoulder pain’, which might restrict her from playing at the grass court Major.
Aryna Sabalenka said, “Heartbroken to have to tell you all that I won’t be able to play The Championships this year. I tried everything to get myself ready but unfortunately my shoulder is not cooperating.”
She added, “I pushed myself to the limit in practice today to try my best, but my team explained that playing would only make things much worse. This tournament means so much to me and I promise I’ll be back stronger than ever next year.”
Sabalenka already revealed that she won’t pay at the 2024 Paris Olympics. However, her withdrawal from the grass court Major has raised concerns among tennis enthusiasts.
