The Monte Carlo Masters marks the official start of the clay season for ATP stars.

The main draw of the Monte Carlo Masters 2025 has started, and all the top stars except a few are ready to play on French soil. The Monte Carlo Masters is one of the most prominent events on the tour, and it also officially kicks off the clay season for the ATP stars.

Jannik Sinner will still be out of action due to the doping ban. After the 23-year-old successfully defended his title at the Australian Open 2025, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) announced a three-month ban for the Italian tennis star. On that note, let’s take a look at the list of players who are not participating in the event for several reasons.

American tennis star Taylor Fritz will miss the Monte Carlo Masters 2025 due to an abdominal injury he endured during his Miami Open semi-final clash against eventual champion Jakub Mensik. His injury earlier aggravated in the last eight clash, where he faced Italy’s Matteo Berrettini. Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut has a spot in the main draw at Taylor Fritz’s place.

Hubert Hurkacz

Polish tennis ace Hubert Hurkaczwill also miss the ATP 1000 Masters event due to lower back pain. The same issue also forced him out of the Miami Open. Nevertheless, he’s expected to return at the ATP 500 event in Munich later this month.

Miomir Kecmanovic has earned the opportunity to play in the main draw in Hubert Hurkacz’s place. However, Fritz and Hurkacz’s withdrawal has raised concerns about tennis scheduling. On the contrary, it also creates opportunities for rising stars to shine in a more open draw.

Jakub Mensik

Miami Open 2025 champion Jakub Mensik will also miss the Monte Carlo Masters due to a knee injury. The 19-year-old was considering withdrawing from the Miami Open final. However, he decided to play and later won the match, beating Novak Djokovic. He’s also expected to return to action at the Munich Open, which will commence on April 14.
