Coco Gauff, Qinwen Zheng registered straight set wins in the semi-finals of WTA Finals 2024.

The WTA Finals 2024 will soon see a first-time champion being crowned in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Coco Gauff will take on Qinwen Zheng as they battle for the ultimate trophy of the season. Gauff defeated Aryna Sabalenka to reach the finals while Zheng overcame Barbora Krejcikova in the semi-finals. Both players did not drop a set during their semi-final victories.

Gauff is playing in the season ending championship for the third consecutive year and had lost in the semi-finals last time. She will be playing in her maiden final clash in the event. She has only lost one match in the event so far this time and has defeated Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek, the top ranked players in the world in straight sets.

Meanwhile, Zheng made her debut in the tournament this year and has been carrying her impressive form since the start of the season. After losing her opening match in Riyadh, the Chinese player fought her way back into contention by winning the next three matches. Zheng is aiming to record her first win over Gauff in their second tour meeting.

The pair had first met this season in the quarter-finals of Rome WTA 1000. Gauff recorded a straight set win in the clay court event. This will be their first meeting on the hardcourts as both players aim to make history. Zheng is seeking to be the first Asian champion in the history of the event while Gauff is looking to be the first American since Serena Williams in 2014 to clinch the trophy.
