Wuhan Open 2024 is the final WTA 1000 event of the season.

The Wuhan Open 2024 will mark the seventh edition of the event in the WTA tour. It is the 10th and final WTA 1000 event of the season. Although the tournament made its debut in 2014, it was featured on the WTA tour from 2020 to 2023. Fans in Wuhan will be waiting to see the top players battling for the trophy. There will be 15 players featuring from the top 20 in the WTA rankings competing in the hardcourt event.

In the singles main draw, Aryna Sabalenka will be leading the field and is the two-time defending champion. She is yet to lose a match at Wuhan and is hoping to extend her 12 match winning streak at the event. Sabalenka also reached the finals in doubles with Elise Mertens in 2019. The world No#2 suffered a shocking quarter-finals exit in China Open and will make sure it does not repeat at Wuhan.

Americans Jessica Pegula, Coco Gauff are seeded second and fourth respectively. While Pegula had made her debut in the event in 2019, Gauff will be playing for the first time. Pegula had exited in the opening round the last time she played and this will be her second event since reaching the finals of US Open. The 30-year-old is also featuring in doubles alongside Asia Muhammad.

Gauff is back in form and is fresh off winning the China Open. The 20-year-old could continue her Asian swing with back-to-back titles. Home crowd favourite, Qinwen Zheng had lost in the semi-finals of China Open and will look to maintain her same form in Wuhan. Joining Zheng will be Italian and third seed Jasmine Paolini who won the doubles title in China Open with Sara Errani.

Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Ellen Perez are the second seeds in the event while Paolini and Errani are the fourth seeds. 2018 doubles champion Elise Mertens is the fifth seeds this time and will be playing alongside Shuai Zhang.

China’s Yafan Wang and Yifan Xu will receive the much needed support in Wuhan. The pair had lost in the fourth round in the China Open and will look to improve their performance this time. Duan Yingying is the first player from China to have tasted success in the event. She alongside Veronika Kudermetova of Russia had clinched the doubles title in 2019. The singles department is yet to see a player from China win the event.
