Conor McGregor wants to be on the White House card!
Dana White has delivered his clearest statement yet on the return of Conor McGregor, offering fans fresh hope that the Irish superstar will soon step back inside the octagon.
The Notorious hasn’t fought since July 2021, when he suffered a horrific broken leg in his trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier. Since then, his long-awaited comeback has been plagued by false starts, canceled bouts, and setbacks.
McGregor was scheduled to face Michael Chandler last year, but that fight collapsed after he broke a pinky toe in training. For months afterward, fighting appeared to be a low priority for the former two-division champion.
Dana White heaps praise on McGregor’s tenacity
White recently doubled down on his stance during an appearance on Logan Paul’s IMPAULSIVE podcast, highlighting McGregor’s willingness to take on the toughest assignments.
“People talk sht about Conor. I’ll tell you, I’ve been in the f**k*ng trenches with Conor,” White said. “Conor is the guy who fought injured. Conor is the guy that, a guy had fallen out, we slid in a stylistically bad matchup for him, he doesn’t care. He literally will fight anybody.”
White also revealed that he and McGregor have been in constant communication. “He and I have been talking nonstop, and he’s like, ‘I’m dead serious, I want this. I’m training. I’m back in the pool.’ We’ll see, we still got a long way to go. We still got a long way to go till February before we start making this card.”
Dana White wants Conor McGregor to headline a blockbuster White House card
Momentum has shifted in recent weeks, with McGregor ramping up his training and teasing fans with cryptic social media posts. The buzz intensified when UFC announced plans to stage a historic event at the White House next June.
White had initially played down speculation that McGregor could headline such a card. But in a recent appearance on the WADE Concept, he made his position crystal clear. When asked who he wanted in the main event, White simply replied: “Conor McGregor.”
The UFC boss doubled down on his praise for the 36-year-old, saying: “He’s always been that guy. Lots of people talk tough publicly, but when the pressure is on, Conor is willing to step up. He’s always been that guy.”
Conor McGregor says he’s ‘Ecstatic’ to return
McGregor himself appears hungrier than ever. Speaking to TMZ, he said: “I’m ecstatic! The Mac is back, and what better event than to grace the White House lawn for a straightener. What I do best. I’m very, very excited. Very eager. Very motivated. Bring it on, baby.”
If he does compete again, it will mark McGregor’s first fight in nearly four years. It would also be his first bout since losing a high-profile civil case in Dublin earlier this summer, when he failed in his appeal against a verdict that found him liable for assault.
Still, the focus for McGregor now appears to be firmly back on fighting. With White publicly backing him and UFC pushing for a spectacle unlike anything the sport has seen before, momentum is finally pointing toward a long-awaited comeback.
