Elves Brener will be facing Joel Alvarez in UFC Fight Night: Sandhagen vs Nurmagomedov

Elves Brener is one of the young Brazilian Mixed Martial Artists, who is currently wrestling in the UFC Lightweight division. Brener has an MMA fighting record of 16 wins, and 4 losses and has been one of the most impactful fighters in the division.

Brener suffered his first loss in UFC at UFC 301, however was motivated to fight against Joel Alvarez at UFC Fight Night Sandhagen vs Nurmagomedov on August 3, 2024, from the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Ahead of the fight this weekend, Brener sat for an exclusive interview with Khel Now and discussed a lot of topics & here is the complete transcription of the interview.

Elves Brener on how important his upcoming match against Joel Alvarez is for him

Brenner looks to make it into the top 10. He said, “It is important to keep me in top of the lightweight division and hopefully be fighting at top 10, by the end of the year, which is my plan anyway since this year started.”

“I’ve been training with a lot of guys with a similar body to his and I’m gonna be fighting at a distance to beat him and it is exactly what’s gonna happen”

Brener on his loss against Orolai at UFC 301 & his plans to bounce back

“For sure, I think in my last fight I only showed 50% to 60% of what I am capable off. I’m 100% right now and I’m going to bring the victory back to Brazil.”

Brener also spoke on what made him enter into MMA at such a young age?

“I am from a very humble and poor family and fighting is really the only way for me to make it out of the situation and to be somebody who I am”

Brener about his weight-cut journey

“You know that the cut for my last fight was the worst one in my life, but thankfully everything is right. Right now for this fight, I don’t want to cut down that much and I’ll easily make weight this week.”

Elves Brener on his relationship with Charles Oliveira and how he helped in his fight

“Charles is a long body type like Joel Alvarez. So, he was able to help me a lot. He has got good Jiu-Jitsu, Alvarez has got some good Jiu-Jitsu, he’s got some good moves. So Charles was able to help me a lot for this fight”

Elves Brener’s dream opponent

“That’s a good question, I’m not sure, but one day I’ll fight Arman Tsarukyan.”

Brener’s goal for 2024

“I wanna end this year in the top 15 in the lightweights in the UFC”
