Merab Dvalishvili is an Georgian-American Professional Mixed Martial artist, who is currently fighting in Bantamweight division in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He has been in MMA since 2014 and has a record of 17 wins and 4 losses in his 21 fights.
Merab Dvalishvili is one of the most dominant fighters in the division and he’s currently ranked #1 in the UFC Bantamweight Division rankings. He has been teasing the champion Sean O’Malley for a fight inside the Octagon for the UFC Bantamweight Championship for a long time.
In his tour to India, the champ opened up on a number of topics including gaining the attention of Sean O’Malley, their title match, his MMA Mount Rushmore, his dream UFC opponent and more. Here is the entire discussion between Khel Now & Merab Dvalishvili.
We’ve seen you digging a grave for Sean O’Malley & eventually dancing with his lookalike. However there isn’t any update on the title bout. So what’s next to gain the champ’s attention?
“I already got his attention, you know. I’m fighting him next. But, I’ll make fun of him, and then I’m trying to promote this fight. Maybe another dance with Sean O’Malley or something like this. You guys can watch my instagram, there are lots of good things and fun stuff here.”
You are too hilarious on your Instagram and the same way too dangerous inside the Octagon. How do you make the switch?
“I’m just a positive guy, a normal guy, but when it comes to fighting, if you wanna fight me & if you gonna punch me, it’s not gonna happen. I’m gonna take you down & I’m gonna make you humbled. We are professionals. We are nice people, we can be dangerous too.”
Merab Dvalishvili on his Mount Rushmore
“Number one would say it will be Georges St. Pierre, Number two it will be Jose Aldo, number three will be my friend Aljamain Sterling & again my number three will be Ilija Topuria.”
Dvalishvili’s dream opponent
“It used to be Conor McGregor, but now I have become friends with him [Laughs]. Now, my dream opponent will be Paula Costa.”
