Kiru Singh Sahota could become the next Indian to get a UFC contract

The Road to UFC Season 3 has showcased elite talent and Kiru Singh Sahota stands out among the competitors, both literally and figuratively. As the 29-year-old flyweight contender prepares for the finale, he faces the undefeated DongHun Choi in a match that will determine the division’s rising star.

Fighting out of Manchester’s Top Team, Sahota has impressed with his unique attributes and technical skills. With a professional record of 12-2 and an imposing presence in the flyweight division, his 5-foot-10 height and 73-inch reach make him a formidable challenge for anyone in the weight class.

Khel Now had the opportunity to speak with Kiru Singh Sahota before his important bout on November 23, 2024. In this interview, Sahota discussed his mindset, preparation and the future in the UFC.

Kiru Singh Sahota holds multiple MMA rankings

When asked about his rise in multiple rankings and how he envisions climbing higher in the flyweight division, Sahota emphasized his focus on moving forward.

“Holding multiple rankings, it’s all good and all well, but I want to make it count in the UFC,” he explained.

“Getting the wins and beating the big names in this division is what I’m looking to do. Rankings, titles, stuff that I’ve done in the past, that’s all in the past. I’m looking forward. I’m taking it one fight at a time. I want to climb these rankings and fight for that belt.”

Sahota discussed the rigorous preparation involved in his fight camps, outlining a carefully structured schedule aimed at enhancing all facets of his game.

He said, “A typical training camp would be I train in the mornings, Monday to Friday, MMA training. Monday morning will be more striking-based, Tuesday is sparring, Wednesday is grappling-based but MMA-focused. Thursday is just hard rounds 10 hard rounds, 10 fives grappling with MMA gloves, with punching and Friday is shoot boxing, like boxing with takedowns.”

“Saturday, one day of rest, and then Sunday is wrestling. That’s just the morning. I also have evening sessions: Monday, another grappling session, Wednesday, another striking session. In between all this, I’ll do five strength and conditioning sessions, three to five pad sessions and focus on game-planning for my opponent. Recovery is equally crucial when you train hard—you need to recover hard.” he added.

Kiru Singh Sahota confident heading into his next fight

Sahota expressed his confidence in his striking abilities and strategy ahead of the match against Choi.

“I feel like I have the edge striking and I’m going to put it on him, man,” he said. “He’s got a background in judo, and he’ll be grappling, really, when I fight with him. He’s undefeated as a professional, but I’m taking that all. Angad Bisht was close to doing it with that split decision. I’m going to be the one that takes it.”

As Sahota gets ready for the most important fight of his career, fans are fully supporting him. A victory would not only bring him closer to securing a UFC contract, but it would also solidify his status as a rising star and generate excitement for his quest for championship gold.
