UFC honours Mexican fighters this week!

For the third straight year, the UFC is celebrating Mexican Independence Day weekend with a stacked fight card under the Noche UFC banner. After two years in Las Vegas, both headlined by unforgettable flyweight title clashes between Alexa Grasso and Valentina Shevchenko, the tradition now makes its way to Texas.

On Saturday night, the Octagon lands inside the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, promising an action-packed evening that continues the spirit of honoring Mexican fighters and fight fans.

This time, the spotlight shifts to the featherweight division, where rising stars Diego Lopes and Jean Silva square off in the main event. Both men have quickly built reputations as dangerous finishers, and with title implications looming large in one of the UFC’s deepest weight classes, the stakes couldn’t be higher.

The main card also features seasoned contenders and exciting prospects alike, including Rob Font, Kelvin Gastelum, and Alexander Hernandez, ensuring plenty of fireworks before the headliner. Meanwhile, the prelims showcase talents such as Tatiana Suarez and Amanda Lemos, adding further intrigue to a night stacked with international flavour.

With passionate crowds expected and high stakes across the board, Noche UFC 2025 looks set to deliver yet another unforgettable night of fights.

Diego Lopes vs Jean Silva

Brazilians Diego Lopes and Jean Silva will close out Saturday night’s third installment of Noche UFC with a high-stakes featherweight showdown that promises fireworks.

Lopes has quickly become one of the most talked-about fighters at 145 pounds. After stepping in on short notice at UFC 288 and earning widespread respect, he went on an impressive five-fight win streak, capped by a statement victory over Brian Ortega at last year’s Noche UFC.

That run earned him a title shot against Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 314, but a slow start proved costly, as he dropped a decision in his bid for the vacant belt. Now, the dynamic finisher looks to reassert himself as a top contender.

Across from him stands Silva, another fast-rising Brazilian talent who has made a flawless start to his UFC career. Since debuting in 2023 alongside his Fighting Nerds teammates, Silva has delivered five straight wins, including a knockout of Melsik Baghdasaryan and a submission of Bryce Mitchell earlier this year.

Their clash is compelling not only because of their aggressive, all-action styles, but also due to Silva’s team looking to rebound after a tough outing in Paris. A win for either fighter could be the ticket to a 2026 title opportunity.

Rob Font vs David Martinez

The bantamweight division gets a classic “veteran versus prospect” matchup on Saturday as Rob Font takes on rising newcomer David Martinez in a pivotal clash.

Font, a staple of the Top 10 for years, has had to regroup after a rough patch where he managed just one victory across five outings. Seeking a fresh start, the Massachusetts native relocated his training camps to Montreal’s famed Tristar Gym.

The move has paid dividends, as Font has since secured back-to-back decision wins, first over Kyler Phillips last October and then against Jean Matsumoto earlier this year, reestablishing his footing among the division’s elite.

On the other side stands Martinez, a 27-year-old prospect with momentum firmly on his side. Riding an eight-fight winning streak, the DWCS alum earned his UFC contract in style before making a statement in his promotional debut this past March, stopping Saimon Oliveira in the first round.

Originally slated to face Quang Le, Martinez stepped up when Raul Rosas Jr. withdrew, seizing the chance to test himself against a proven contender like Font.

With both men already primed for action, this fight poses the ultimate question: can Font prove his veteran savvy still holds up, or will Martinez announce himself as the UFC’s newest bantamweight threat?
