Why Conor McGregor vs Michael Chandler won't main event UFC 303?

Major change in the main event & co-main event of UFC 303.
UFC 303 is one of the most anticipated mixed martial arts events produced by the UFC. The show is all set to be held on June 29, 2024 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Paradise, Nevada, United States. The event was stacked with multiple big matches, where McGregor is said to make his return to the Octagon in the main event against Michael Chandler.
However, UFC’s President & CEO, Dana White dropped a major bombshell, by pulling off Conor McGregor vs Michael Chandler big main event match and announced major changes in the main event and co-main event for UFC 303.
Conor McGregor vs Michael Chandler is pulled-off
Dana White on X/Twitter announced that Conor McGregor ve Michael Chandler is pulled off from the card for UFC 303, as McGregor is injured. However, he announced that Alex Pereira vs Jiri Prochazka will main event UFC 303 on June 29, 2024.
Dana White said,
“Conor McGregor is out of 303 vs Michael Chandler with an injury. The new main event is Alex Pereira, former not only UFC middleweight champion but also the first fighter to win middleweight and light-heavyweight world titles in UFC history. He also did it in the shortest amount of time, he did in 736 days and seven fights.
He’s finished seven of nine wins by knockout and won 10 of his last 11 fights, he is facing former UFC light-heavyweight champion Jiri Prochazka, who has an unbelievable 23 first-round wins. He has 25 by knockout, three by submission, that’s a 97 per cent finish rate.”
White further announced two more new fights to the UFC 303 card. Diego Lopes will face Brian Ortega in the co-main event. Jamahal Hill, who was originally slated to co-main event the show with Carlos Ulberg was pulled-off due to injury, resulting in Carlos Ulberg vs Anthony Smith in a lightweight bout.
According to Dana White, the UFC 303 sellout event was on pace and is expected to set a record with more than $20 Million from the live gate. However it seems like the ticket sales could be affected. The UFC has not announced whether the McGregor vs Chandler Welterweight bout could be rescheduled or not.
