The likes of Mirabai Chanu and Jeremy will look to bring medals for the country.
The Asian Weightlifting Championships have already begun on October 8 and will go on till October 16, 2022, being held in Manama, Bahrain. The Asian Championships is held every year but due to the pandemic could not be held in 2021. In the last edition held in 2020, India could muster only two medals (gold and bronze) coming from Jhilli Dhalabhera and Mirabai Chanu.
In the current edition, India will be without top weightlifters like Mirabai Chanu and Jeremy and will look to test the bench strength ahead of the World Championships to be held in November.

On day 1, Harshada Barud opened the Indian medals tally winning the bronze medal in the 45kg category for women. The 18-year-old lifted 68kg in the snatch and 84kg in the clean and jerk to finish on the podium. Harshada is the current world junior champion adding her first medal in the senior category.
Along with winning the overall bronze, she also won bronze in the snatch section. At the continental games, medals are awarded separately in both the snatch and clean&jerk sections. But at the Olympics, only the combined score is taken into consideration.
In the 49kg category, both the Indian Jhilli Dhalabera and Gyaneshwari Yadav lifted the same weight of 171kg finishing 4th and 5th respectively. Jhilli last time won the gold but this time couldn't finish on the podium. Gyaneshwari lifted her PB score of 171 and is also the world junior silver medallist.
Gyaneshwari has increased her mark by 11kg as compared to her previous performance at the Junior Asian Championships.
