IWF Youth World Weightlifting Championships 2024: Bedabrat Bharali bags three golds

Bedabrat Bharali won three gold medals with a total lift of 296 kg.
First time in the History of Indian weightlifting, Gold medal was pocketed by a Youth Boy, earlier best performance came in the year 2016 where Mr. Jeremy Lalrinnunga won a Silver medal and Muthupandi Raja won a Bronze medal in 56 kg weight category during 2016 IWF Youth (Boys & Girls) World Weightlifting Championships held at Penang, Malaysia from 18-25 October 2016.
Mr. Bedabrat Bharali, 17 years old Indian athlete captured 3 gold medals with a total lift of 296 kg (Snatch – 136 kg, Clean & Jerk-160 kg, Total – 296 kg) surpassed his fellow competitor by 12 kg to become champion of 73 kg weight category held during 2024 IWF Youth (Boys & Girls) World Weightlifting Championships at Lima (Peru) on 24th May 2024. Mr. Macdonald Ryan Patrick of USA won Silver medal with a total of 284 kg (Snatch – 125 kg + Clean & Jerk-159 kg, Total-284 kg) and Mr. Kotelevskyi Serhii of Ukraine won Bronze medal with a total of 283 kg (Snatch – 125 kg + Clean & Jerk-159 kg, Total – 284 kg) Mr. Sairaj Pardeshi, another Youth Boy athlete who competed in 81 kg weight category also secured one bronze medal in snatch event and finishing 4th in overall total.
Whereas Mr. Sairaj Pardeshi in 81 kg weight category created 3 new national record one each in snatch, clean & jerk and total. Old records were held by Mr. Valluri Ajaya. With a lift of 136 kg in snatch, he better his own National record in Snatch event, earlier record held was 133 kg created during Selection trials held at Patiala on 20th April 2024
Babu in Snatch (134 kg), Mr. Sairaj Pardeshi in clean & jerk (164 kg) and Mr. Valluri Ajaya Babu in Total (295 kg). Mr. Bedabrati Bharali made his debut in International events in the year 2023 where he pocket 3 medals in Total. Notably this is the second medal for Mr. Bedabrat Bharali in the World Championships after securing bronze medal last year in 67 kg weight category, he rose to Gold medal position by changing his weight category from 67 kg to 73 kg.
