Aman Sehrawat is the only male Indian grappler to secure a quota place for Paris Olympics.
Indian grappler Aman Sehrawat has revealed what was going through his mind while competing in the Wrestling World Olympic Qualifiers.
Aman Sehrawat is the only male Indian grappler to secure a quota for Paris Olympics and he achieved it at the recently held world qualifiers. Of his three fights in the qualifiers, Aman won two via technical superiority. He also stated that he aimed to win the fight before the six minutes ended, either by technical superiority or pin.
He said, “When I lost the Asian Olympic qualifier, my coaches told me that I should not wrestle outside my style. My style is not to allow the other wrestler to finish the bout. I have to wrestle for six minutes. I had only this target in my mind that I have to wrestle six minutes here.”

Aman faced Georgi Vangelov in his first bout, and the match ended 6-3 in favour of the Indian grappler. However, he stated that the match was a close call for him. He added, “I thought that Vangelov bout was a tight one. I didn’t want him to get to my legs to finish it with a lace. So, I kept my distance and scored points whenever I got a chance.”

Nevertheless, Aman Sehrawat also stated that he was relieved after winning the Olympic quota. He revealed that India always had a representative in the 57kg category since 2004. During the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Ravi Dahiya secured a silver medal in the same category.
Aman Sehrawat concluded, “I am relieved. It was big responsibility on me to qualify especially in the lowest weight category. I was checking the records and India has a wrestler qualifying at this weight since 2004. So, had I not qualified, everyone would have blamed me.”
