French authorities have already cancelled Antim Panghal’s accreditation at Paris Olympics 2024.
The Paris Olympics 2024 has seen the Indian wrestling contingent facing all sorts of trouble. After Vinesh Phogat’s heartbreaking disqualification, now Antim Panghal finds herself in trouble. The 19-year-old Indian wrestler, according to reports, will be sent back to India after her sister Nisha tried to enter the Olympic village using her (Antim’s) accreditation pass. It was considered to be a disciplinary breach.
Antim Panghal and her team are now set to face deportation from the French authorities, according to reports. Panghal’s sister Nisha had gone to the Olympic village to reportedly collect her belongings. She had entered the village but was questioned by authorities while coming back.
The wrestler’s sister Nisha and her staff were staying outside the Olympic village. Nisha was taken to the police station and was questioned by the officials. Antim had also been called to the station and after the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) intervened, they were let go from the station.
Antim Panghal had earlier lost her opening bout 0-10 against Turkiye’s Zeynep Yetgil. It has been a painful debut for the young Indian wrestler. The 19-year-old was a major medal contender but will now mostly be sent back to India.
It has been a complicated situation for IOA who have been already handling the disqualification of Vinesh Phogat in the finals of Paris Olympics 2024. Meanwhile, Antim Panghal could face disciplinary action by the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and IOA.
Antim’s passes have been cancelled along with her support staff. She had earlier requested for accreditation of her support staff by the IOA. They had then received approval from IOA but now Panghal and her team will be flown back to India as orders from the French authorities.
The wrestler is yet to make an official statement on the situation. Antim Panghal’s Olympic debut has now been marred by controversies. She can only hope now that the legal troubles are over once she reaches India.
The youngster’s actions have made it tough for Indian authorities to extend her stay at Paris Olympics 2024. Antim Panghal will consequently miss the closing ceremony at Paris and will now face the heat once she lands in India. She will make sure not to flout the rules or regulations set by a sporting body.
