Seth Rollins wants to face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40

Will the former Shield members collide again on the WWE’s grandest stage?

Former United States champion Seth Rollins hopes to challenge current undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40.

At Showcase of the Immortals, Reigns successfully defeated Cody Rhodes to defend his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. The latter was on a mission to "finish the story" and carry on his father Dusty Rhodes' unfulfilled legacy of becoming a world champion.

Last year, Roman and Seth's animosity was rekindled. The latter made an entrance with The Shield during their Royal Rumble match. Despite winning the contest, he was disqualified from taking The Tribal Chief's Universal Championship. The Visionary said Roman Reigns has never defeated him for the Universal Championship.

In an interview with ESPN, Seth "Freakin" Rollins was questioned about who he would like to compete against at WrestleMania 40. The former WWE Champion mentioned the Tribal Chief as the superstar he would like to face in a major bout without giving it much thought.

"God, there's a few of them out there, man. I mean, realistically, Roman Reigns is someone that I have only wrestled on pay-per-view, and singles matches twice. And you look at a lot of the other, say, long-term rivalries, you know, The Rock [and] Austin, they did three Mania matches themselves, three of them, two of the main events, I think," Rollins said. Undoubtedly, the match between Rollins and Reigns is one that many fans are eager to see. Along with Jon Moxley (a.k.a. Dean Ambrose), both wrestlers played significant roles in The Shield. 

After Rollins' deceit, the group split up; nevertheless, all three turned their attention to a single run after being briefly reunited throughout the years.

Since his ties with actual family members and stablemates in The Bloodline were doubted, The Head of the Table has made more enemies than friends. Still, it appears that Roman would like to take on Rollins at Showcase of the Immortals next year.

During a recent ESPN interview, Roman Reigns named Seth Rollins as his ultimate challenger for WrestleMania 40. Because of their fierce rivalry and history, the narrative would emerge naturally on the Road to WrestleMania.

"I think Seth's a good answer. I think we have a lot of open-ended history; I think there's a lot of competitive brotherhood there. There is an estranged love due to our past history. There's always been, and this is just Seth, there's always been a underlying, I wouldn't say animosity, but friction to where we can easily butt heads," Reigns said. [0:28 - 0:59]

The Head of the Table annihilated WWE Superstars such as John Cena, Goldberg, Cody Rhodes, Brock Lesnar, Daniel Bryan, and others who tried to dethrone him while reigning as a champion for over 900 days.
