WWE SmackDown (July 28, 2023): Matches, news, rumors, predicted matches, timings, telecast details

On the road to the grandest wrestling event of the summer, WWE is actively booking matches for the event. However there are not many match cards from the SmackDown side, so this Friday WWE could book certain matches for 2023 SummerSlam from the SmackDown roster. The July 28, 2023, episode of SmackDown will take place at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, Los Angeles. 

Match Cards & Predictions

United States Championship Invitational Finals

For the past two weeks, WWE is hosting the United States Championship Invitational tournament to determine the next challenger to Austin Theory’s United States Championship. Santos Escobar qualified for the finals two weeks before and Rey Mysterio qualified the past week despite Austin Theory’s interference, which was countered by Santos Escobar. Theory and Escobar went one on one the same night in a non-title match, where Escobar pulled out an upset by defeating Theory.

This week on SmackDown the two LWO members are said to fight against each other to face Austin Theory for the United States Championship match. As per speculations, Escobar could possibly pull out a win against Rey to become the #1 COntender for the United States Championship.

WWE Women’s Championship Confrontation

WWE announced a Triple Threat Match at SummerSlam hours before last week’s SmackDown. The same night Charlotte had a match against IYO SKY and won, after which Asuka attacked Flair. This week all the three members of the match are said to have a confrontation and would turn it into a brawl.

Karl Anderson vs Karrion Kross

After costing the United States Invitational Match of AJ Styles, by attacking The O.C. Karrion Kross extended the feud with Styles. As a result of the attack, Karl Anderson is said to go one on one with Karrion Kross this friday on SmackDown. Karrion Kross is likely to win the match by pinning Karl Anderson. After the match, AJ Styles and Luke Gallows could attack Karrion Kross resulting in a match between AJ Styles and Karrion Kross at SummerSlam.

LA Knight gets a match for SummerSlam

LA Knight is one of the most celebrated WWE superstars in recent times with an increasing fan base and loud pop day-by-day. Ignoring him in a major event would absolutely bury the hype of the Megastar. Wrestling fans expected him to win the US Championship Invitational match but came out short as Rey took the spot in the fatal 4-Way match. So this week, LA Knight could find his challenger for the SummerSlam. As per rumors, Rey Mysterio, Sheamus or Grayson Waller could be his opponent for SummerSlam and it would be initiated this week.
