Have WWE wasted Finn Balor’s potential in recent times?
The Prince was the inaugural Universal Champion
Finn Balor is one of the extraordinary in-ring talents with chiseled looks, great audience connection and extraordinary in-ring skills. He is the inaugural Universal Champion and the former face of the black and gold brand. He has wrestled some of the great wrestlers of the company and delivered some of the extraordinary matches. However, it seems like WWE is wasting Balor’s potential in recent times due to poor booking and lack of push. Here is a detailed view on how WWE has wasted Balor’s potential in recent times.
First defeat to The Demon King
After a successful second run in the NXT, Finn Balor returned to the main roster in 2021 where he was directly inserted into a feud with Roman Reigns. Where he brought the Demon King persona back to life after two years. As The Demon King never lost a match in the main roster, the expectation for the match was so high. However, the match was booked in a way to mark the first defeat of the “Demon”, which buried the uniqueness and potential of the gimmick and his ability to be the main eventer. Since then the Demon persona didn’t gain the usual hype it used to get and again booked for a loss again at WrestleMania 39.
Losing as a Heel
Finn Balor turned heel for the first time in the main roster in June 2022 by joining “The Judgement Day”. He entered the faction by kicking out the former leader Edge, establishing himself as a powerful heel. Although being a heel for one of the top heel factions of the company, it didn’t help him. Finn Balor was constantly being booked on a losing side, which made the heel turn worthless. Although the fellow Judgement Day members are getting the push to be a champion and future champion, he was booked to only get defeated by the champion.
Kurt Angle on Finn Balor
WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle is one of the huge admirers of Finn Balor, on his podcast “The Kurt Angle Show” Angle spoke about how Balor is being wasted in WWE and how he should be utilized following Balor’s loss against Seth Rollins at SummerSlam.
Angle said,
“Well, you know what? It would’ve been nice if they would’ve given him this world title. You know, I think he’s really over, incredibly athletic. He has a lot of charisma. This kid, you know, if WWE doesn’t end up doing something with him, that’s dramatic, I wouldn’t blame him if he went off and went somewhere else. I don’t wanna see him do that because I love WWE, and I think he’s a good fit for them, but they need to start putting this kid over. He deserves it.”
