WWE is the leading professional wrestling promotion across the world for over decades. Their successful weekly shows such as Raw and SmackDown plays a major role in their success. Raw has always been promoted as the A show in the past, where SmackDown was the B show.

However, after the COVID-19 pandemic the momentum shifted towards the SmackDown as it started overtaking the viewerships of Raw. However, in the most recent times it seems like Raw is getting the momentum back proving it as the better show than SmackDown. So here are the five reasons that prove why Raw is a better brand than SmackDown at present.

5. Storylines

WWE SmackDown has one of the finest storylines “The Bloodline” storyline, which has been the driving point of the company. However there are few to no storylines in the blue brand. The creative storytelling on the SmackDown seems so laggy and poor that they couldn’t even position the mid-card feuds into the pay-per-views.

Whereas Raw has some of the strong storylines circulating around The Judgement Day, Sami Zayn, Cody Rhodes, Becky Lynch and many others. The storyline involves multiple wrestlers which makes it more exciting and engaging to watch.

4. Women’s Division

The SmackDown Women’s division is almost dead as there is no spark in the feud and involves the same two to three wrestlers including the WWE Women’s Champion IYO SKY, Asuka and Zelina Vega. The rest of the women on the SmackDown brand is no where to be found as they are not actively involved in any kind of television appearances.

On the Raw brand, the women’s division is quite convincing as they pick up feuds quite often and involve multiple wrestlers. Rhea is involved in a feud with Raquel, Liv, and others, Becky is in a feud with Trish and Zoey, and has some running storyline around the Women’s Tag Team Division.

3. Tag Team Division

Since Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens brough the Undisputed Tag Team Championship to the Raw brand, SmackDown seems like lagging in their tag team division. They have some of the best tag teams in their roster including Street Profits, Brawling Brutes, O.C. and others, but they quite didn’t fit into the storyline as there is no championship to fight for. There is currently no Women’s Tag Team Division in the SmackDown brand as the championships were on the Raw brand and there are a lack of teams in the division.

Raw has some of the greatest tag teams including the tag champs Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens, New Day, The Viking Raiders, Alpha Academy and the newly formed team of McIntyre and Riddle. The women’s tag team championship was brought to Raw and has some ongoing storyline on finding the other half as Deville vacated.

2. Wasted Talents

The SmackDown superstars are not well used as some of the great talents and veterans are inactive most of the time. Superstars such as Sheamus, AJ Styles, Karrion Kross, Brawling Brutes, Bayley, Bianca Belair, Michin, Karl Anderson  Luke Gallows, Rick Boogs and many others are not regularly used. Whereas it books multiple segments with The Bloodline and runs the show. The show doesn’t have a top-card babyface challenge for the Universal Championship.

Yes, Raw has also wasted some of the great talents by making them inactive including wrestlers such as Apollo Crews, Candice LeRae, Indie Hartwell, Dexter Lumis, Tegan Nox, Xia Lee and so many. But they involved multiple members to a storyline to make it interesting  such as Nakamura into World Heavyweight Championship feud, McDonagh into The Judgment Day storyline, Piper Niven into the tag team, Zoey into the Becky-Trish feud and so many. It seems like a promising place for talents on a longer run.

1. SmackDown’s dependency on Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns WWE
Roman Reigns has been the face of WWE in the recent past

The blue brand is completely dependent on Roman Reigns and The Bloodline, in that they book multiple segments for them in a single episode. After Jey Uso left WWE and other members didn’t show up, the struggle of the roster was clear as every other match became an exhibition match without any proper storylines. As WWE is rumored to be dragging the Bloodline story, it might decline the brand. Will Cena’s addition until the end of October boost the blue brand?
