After the grand event of the summer, this week’s episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown is said to be held live from Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. This is the second time in 2023 that WWE is hoisting SmackDown in Canada and the first time in Calgary since 2013. The August 11, 2023 episode is most anticipated among fans following the end of SummerSlam 2023 and is expected to be a great show with power packed match cards and segments. Here is a detailed preview and prediction of the August 11, 2023 episode of SmackDown.
Match Cards & Predictions
United States Championship Match
Santos Escobar won the United States Championship Invitational Tournament and earned an opportunity to face Austin Theory for the United States Championship. The match was originally planned to be held on SmackDown before SummerSlam 2023, but got postponed this week. Escobar already won a non-title match against Austin Theory and proved his abilities two weeks before. Whereas, Austin Theory had defeated former World Champions and retained his Championship.
Although both have an equal chance of winning the title, Santos Escobar might slice a win and become the New United States Champion. WWE has never booked a title change for any championships in the male division for so long. Austin Theory has been holding the title for so long, that it could be the perfect time to strip the championship from him and award Escobar as a new champion.
AJ Styles vs Karrion Kross
The rivalry between AJ Styles and Karrion Kross has been continuing for months, and it could not be brought to an end. It seemed like the feud got concluded before Money in the Bank but Kross re-initiated the feud. They tried to end it before SummerSlam, but Karrion Kross re-initiated again at SummerSlam by eliminating AJ Styles after being eliminated. He stated that he is not finished with him unless he said it’s over. They would likely have a match and end their feud by this week.
Karrion Kross is likely to win the match as it could be the only possible end for the rivalry that dragged so long without any actual reason behind the feud.
IYO SKY Championship Celebration
After a successful Money in the Bank cash-in at SummerSlam 2023, IYO SKY is expected to have a championship celebration this friday. Where Bayley and Dakota Kai are said to appear along with her for the celebration. The celebration could become chaos by interruption of Shotzi Blackheart and Asuka, where Shotzi would come to have a revenge with Bayley and Asuka will be challenging IYO SKY for her rematch at Payback.
Hail the Tribal Chief
Roman Reigns retained his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship and the “Tribal Chief” title against his cousin Jey Uso at SummerSlam. Where Jimmy Uso betrayed his twin Jey Uso and paved the way for Roman to retain his championship and title. It was reported that Roman was injured during the match, despite injury he is said to appear for the Tribal Chief Coronation this friday. Jimmy Uso expected to re-align with Roman Reigns and might award Roman the “Ula Fala”.
