WWE SmackDown Results & Winners (August 25, 2023): Tribute to Bray Wyatt and Terry Funk

This week episode of SmackDown is a tribute show to Bray Wyatt and Terry Funk, every segment make them remember in some way or other. It features some of the exciting matches and a first ever champion defense. Here is a match summary, results, ratings and winners list of the complete episode.

Match Summary

Ten Bell Salute

WWE honors the lives of two great persons Terry Funk and Bray Wyatt with a Ten Bell Salute. All the WWE Superstars were on the ring and a video package of Bray Wyatt is displayed as a tribute and the crowd goes wild with a loud pop of Thank You Bray! Chants.

Rey Mysterio vs Grayson Waller

Rey Mysterio went one-on-one with Grayson Waller. Rey came up with a black band on his arms with TF and BW in it to show respect to the late Terry Funk and Bray Wyatt. As soon as the match begun, Waller pushed Rey and mocked him, where Rey sent Waller with a Shoulder threw and hit the elbow on the face and mocked Waller. Which pissed of him where Rey countered with an Hurricane Rana and locked him on the corner for ten punches to the face.

Rey measured Waller for 619 to finish him soon, but Waller countered his move by lifting him on the shoulders and sending out of the ring through the top rope. Waller slide out to attack Rey but got countered with a Hurricane Rana to the Barricade.

After the commercial, both were on the ring where Rey send Waller to the turnbuckle in which Waller jumped and stomped on Rey’s back head. Waller then started bullying Rey with bully kicks. Rey ran Waller shoulder first to the ring post, hit him with a senton and a Tornado DDT.

Both hit each other back to back, where Rey sent Waller to the middle rope for 619, but got interrupted by Austin Theory. He tried to distract Rey, but Waller couldn’t able to use the distraction for the win. Escobar attacked Theory and Rey hit Waller with a 619 and a splash for the win.

Winner: Rey Mysterio Ratings: 4/5

WWE Women’s Championship Match

IYO SKY defended her WWE Women’s Championship for the first time against Zelina Vega. The match began and both started twisting each others arm, but Zelina threw IYO with a shoulder throw. IYO then hit Vega face first to the ropes and delivered a Power Slam. IYO then took Zelina over his shoulder and threw her to the floor.

Zelina stood up and hit IYO with a clothesline and a Hammerlock DDT. She then climbed the ropes for a Mediora but that wasn’t enough. IYO stood and hit Vega with a drop kick from the ropes. Zelina delivered a DDT and measured her for a Code Red, which ended in IYO delivering a Power Bomb to her. Zelina then hit a Code Red, but IYO rolled out. Zelina followed her, but IYO sent her through the steel steps, throws back inside the ring, hit a running Double knees to the chest and with a Moon Sault for the win. IYO retained her championship.

Winner: IYO SKY Ratings: 4/5

Cody Rhodes Tribute to Terry Funk

Cody Rhodes walked through the middle of the ring and talked his memories about Terry Funk, how is one of the toughest feud for his Dad, recalled his career and showcased a tribute video package.

Rhodes then announced a Terry Funk Hardcore Tag Team Match between The Brawling Brutes and Street Profits as a tribute to his hardcore fighting style.

Terry Funk Hardcore Tag Team Match

As the match is with the hardcore stipulation, there is no rules and regulations for the match. All the four started the match, where Butch took Ford and Dawkins took Ridge. They took the fight outside the ring and entered the ring one by one. Ridge took Ford to a Neck locked Swing, but Dawkins saved him. Ford hit him with a Standing Frog Splash. Butch climbed the top rope and hit both Dawkins and Ford with a Moon Sault. Dawkins rolled down, where Ridge ran through him, and tried to Power Bomb but failed. Ford then sent Butch out and flied all the way though the top rope on all.

When all were laid down Bobby Lashley marched his way to the ring. While all get on their foot, Buch and Ridge hit a ten beat up to the chest. The Brutes hit a powerbomb combo on Ford, but Dawkins saved the match. Dawkins lifted Ridge over the shoulder like a Powerbomb, where Ford from the top rope hit him with a blockbuster. Holland and Dawkins went to the top rope, where Holland delivered a Vertical Super-plex to Dawkins. Ford from the other corner hit Holland with a Frog Splash and went for a cover, but Butch saved the match.

Butch then introduced Tables to the match, staring Lashley on the ring side. Holland hit a double offense on Ford and Dawkins. Holland laid Dawkins over the tables and Butch went to the top rope. Lashley pushed Butch down and speared him outside the ring, as there is no rules in the Hardcore match. The Street profits broke the table with a Revelation on Holland for the won.

Winner: The Street Profits Ratings: 4.5/5

LA Knight vs Finn Balor

LA Knight talked about how he feel for Bray, as he was Bray’s last opponent. He showed his respect to him and his family members. He then warned The Miz in Wyatt style and said “The Next time you see me, Run” phrase.

The match begun, where Knight had the initial advantage, who escaped Balor’s move and hit hit face through the Commentary desk like a Basket Ball. He pulled him to the ring and when Knight was on the top rope, Balor pulled his legs off to land on the Back of the head. Balor applied neck lock on Knight and sends him to a corner, where Knight countered and hit him with a Neck Breaker and a DDT.

Balor tried to fight back and delivered a Sling Blade, but Knight hit him back with a Clothesline. Balor countered back with a stomp to the chest and climbed the top rope for a Coupe De Grace. Knight stopped him and hit him with a Vertical Super-plex from the top rope. Knight went for the BFT and picked up the win.

Winner: LA Knight Ratings: 3.5/5

Wyatt Signature Ending

SmackDown ended with Bray Wyatt’s signature ending, where light goes off and a lamp was placed on the ring, with fireflies on the WWE Universe, and picture of Wyatt standing on the screen ended this week’s episode of SmackDown.
