WWE Women's Tag Team championship curse continues
One half of the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion, Sonya Deville is reported to be suffering from a torn ACL.
Sonya Deville started her professional wrestling career in WWE and has been working for the company for the past eight years. She never had her hands on the Championship throughout her wrestling career.
After a long struggle, she finally had her first championship win on July 17, 2023 by teaming up with Chelsea Green to defeat Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriquez for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship. With three weeks of the championship reign, she is now in a position to vacate her title. The title was vacated on the August 7 episode of Raw and she is no longer a champion.
What happened?
WWE on Twitter announced that Sony Deville has been suffering from a Torn ACL and will be out from in-action for an indefinite period of time. As many could wonder what is the reason for her injury, for which Sonya Deville herself has posted an injury update video on Instagram.
Deville on her Instagram Video spoke that she tore her left ACL last friday, when she and Chelsea Green fought against Bianca Belair and Charlotte Flair. She is about to have surgery and would miss WWE television for an extended period of time. She reported that it is her first injury in over eight years of her professional wrestling career.
The 29 year old continued that she had never won a championship her entire career and managed to have one with Chelsea, but it is coming to an end in a most unfortunate way due to injury. Although it makes her disappointed, she is a person testing her willpower and strength. She is looking forward to having an impactful return sooner or later.
Why is the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship considered as being cursed?
WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship is considered as one of the cursed championships as the former reigns were subjected to controversial ends in recent times. Sasha Banks and Naomi walked out of the company vacating their titles, Becky Lynch and Lita lost the title as Trish replaced Lita and turned on Becky, Raquel Rodriquez and Liv Morgan vacated their titles as a result of Liv’s shoulder injury, Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler lost their titles as Shayna turned on Rousey. Now, Sonya Deville tore her left ACL and their championship was vacated.
