Gunther surpasses 500 days as WWE Intercontinental Champion

Gunther is one of the most dominant professional wrestlers right from day 1 since he has been signed with WWE. He made his debut at NXT UK under the name Walter and won the NXT UK Championship months later by ending Pete Dunne's longest championship reign. He broke Dunne's record of 685 days title reign and became the longest reigning NXT UK champion with 870 days reign. Weeks after losing his NXT UK Championship, he changed his name to Gunther ahead of his main roster debut.

On April 8, 2022, Gunther made his main roster debut with Ludwig Kaiser and soon climbed to the top spot to become the Intercontinental Champion by defeating Ricochet. Gunther in the main roster became one of the unstoppable forces of the company. Gunther on his main roster run has crossed multiple milestones, he has achieved yet another milestone of his career.

Gunther surpassed 500 day title reign

Earlier this year on February 9, 2023, Gunther surpassed the 245-day reign of Shelton Benjamin to become the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion of the 21st Century. On February 17, Gunther surpassed WWE Hall of Famer Mr. Perfect's 280 days reign to become the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion in the last 34 years. On September 4, Gunther broke the all time record of The Honky Tonk Man's reign of 454 days to become the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion of all time.

Now, Gunther has reached the milestone of 500 days as Intercontinental Champion and became the first Intercontinental Champion to reach this monumental milestone. Since his next challenger and his next title defense has not been scheduled yet, he is likely to enjoy his championship for a longtime.

Gunther has also become the second person to hold two championship titles in WWE for more than 500 days and is the second longest reigning champion of the current roster.
