Rey Mysterio has been in wrestling since the age of 14 and has been winning the hearts of millions of wrestling fans for the past three and a half decades. He represents the tradition of Mexican Lucha Libre style of wrestling and is considered as ‘The Ultimate Luchador’. He is a 16-time champion in WWE and has a great legacy with the company.

Mysterio was inducted into WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2023 for his contributions to the wrestling industry. He is the first person to be inducted into the Hall of Fame with an active wrestling career. The 49-year-old is currently in SmackDown and is the current United States Champion. With him nearing 50, Rey spoke about his retirement timeline.

Rey Mysterio reveals retirement

Rey Mysterio recently appeared on MMA Hour and had a great conversation with Ariel Helwani, where Mysterio spoke about retiring from in-ring action in the next one and half year or two.

Ariel Helwani asked Rey, "Do you have a date or an age where you want to stop?”. To which Rey said, “I thought I did, I said 50”

Rey Mysterio recalled his Hall of Fame speech about the sacrifice of his wife and conversation with Kevin Hart at Cold as Balls, where he spoke about his retirement plans of spending his retirement life with his wife. To which Helwani asked “When does that time come?”

“We’re kind of playing it on, and she gave me the Liberty to say, ‘however you feel, whenever you say it’s time, I respect that she’s that open to it. I’m hoping that it can be within the next year and a half or two, maybe.”

Rey Mysterio previously spoke about his retirement plans earlier this month, when he appeared on the Cold as Balls. Where Rey said,

“I think more than anything is to give some time back to my wife. She has put her career on the line and her time to raise two kids to support me, to let me pursue my dream to wrestle. My lifetime, I just want to be able to enjoy and share it with her.”

Rey Mysterio also spoke about his desire to have his retirement match with Dominik Mysterio or a Hair vs Mask Match with his Son. Rey also mentioned Dragon Lee could be the next greatest Luchador and will be his version of Rey Mysterio.
