Gunther is one of the most dominant professional wrestlers of WWE in the active WWE roster. He has been an impressive wrestler from day 1 in WWE. He had been proving his caliber since his NXT UK time, where he wrestled under the name Walter and was the longest reigning NXT UK champion with 870 days reign. After losing the title, he changed his name to Gunther and made his main roster debut with his Imperium teammate Ludwig Kaiser.

Gunther made his main roster debut on SmackDown in April and soon climbed to the top spot to become the Intercontinental Champion by defeating Ricochet. Gunther then became one of the unstoppable forces of the company and has elevated the title into new heights. He has achieved yet another milestone of his career with the IC title reign.

Gunther surpassed 600 days title reign

In February, 2023, Gunther surpassed Shelton Benjamin’s 245 days reign to become the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion of the 21st Century. Later the same month, The Ring General surpassed WWE Hall of Famer Mr. Perfect’s 280 days reign to become the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion of the last 34 years.

In September 2023, the Austrian broke the all-time record of The Honky Tonk Man’s reign of 454 days to become the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion of all time. In October 2023, Gunther reached the 500-day milestone for his Intercontinental Championship reign and became the first one to achieve this landmark.

It is now reported that Gunther has reached another milestone by surpassing the 600-day mark after defeating Kofi Kingston on Raw after Royal Rumble 2024. With this he become the first person to carry the IC title for more than 20 months in a single reign. On this successful reign, Gunther had defended the title 91 times in television, pay-per-views, dark matches and live events.

Since his next challenger, next title defense has not been scheduled yet and is not available for Elimination Chamber 2024, he is likely to enjoy his championship for a longtime. Gunther has also become the second person to hold two championship titles in WWE for more than 600 days. He is now the second longest reigning champion of WWE in the current roster.
