WWE has embraced celebrity cameos more than ever!
In a recent interview with Adi Shankar, AEW’s Kenny Omega slammed the Stamford-based promotion for its celebrity culture. WWE has leaned into celebrity culture even harder following the TKO acquisition and the Netflix deal.
The promotion is bullish on chasing mainstream approval, targeting new fans, which has led many celebrities to step inside the squared circle. Social Media star Logan Paul has been wrestling on a semi-regular basis, while stars like Bad Bunny have competed in several matches.
Premium Live Events (PLEs) in 2025 have seen many influential celebrities such as Travis Scott, Jason Kelce, IShowSpeed, among others, who have made cameos or have partaken in segments that included getting physical in the ring.
IShowSpeed replaced Akira Tozawa after he was attacked by Carmelo Hayes in the men’s Royal Rumble, he was viciously speared by Bron Breakker, a clip which went viral on the internet. Travis Scott also has made appearances, most notably during John Cena’s historic heel turn at the Elimination Chamber.
Scott was not only present in the ring but also took part in beating up Cody Rhodes. He also made a recent appearance during the main event of WrestleMania 41, where he interfered in the main event Undisputed title clash between Rhodes and Cena.
Kenny Omega criticizes the celebrity culture in WWE
Omega sat down with Adi Shankar to break down “Devil May Cry” on Netflix. However, the conversation took a detour as the pair started talking about pro wrestling, where Omega made a bizarre match prediction for WrestleMania.
The AEW star also sounded his lack of optimism about the future of WWE and wrestling as a whole. He also half-joked that WWE’s ‘Grandest Stage’ might be headlined by Social Media stars in the future.
“I’ve said it before, I don’t think — I don’t know if I’ve ever said it publicly or not, but I mean, I think we’re headed on a path where it’s like, a couple of WrestleManias down the road, the main event’s gonna be Logan Paul vs. Mr. Beast. It’s like, what is the wrestling acumen? How many miles have they put into it? It’s like, does it matter? This is process of evolution.”
Kenny Omega was recently in action on the April 30 episode of AEW Dynamite, which took place at Chartway Arena in Norfolk, Virginia, USA. Omega teamed up with Kevin Knight, Mark Briscoe, and Mike Bailey in a losing effort against The Elite (Kazuchika Okada, Matthew Jackson & Nicholas Jackson).
