The 01/17 episode of the Blue brand features exciting matchups
The Stamford-based promotion will pack their bags for San Diego this week as Friday Night SmackDown will emanate from the Pechanga Arena in San Diego, California. The 01/17 episode of the Blue brand will follow in the steps of Monday Night Raw and will continue building storylines and matchups for the upcoming Saturday Night’s Main Event and 2025 Royal Rumble PLE.
Multiple top stars are slated to appear on the show including Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes, WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton, LA Knight, Bianca Belair and many more.
The promotion has announced two exciting matchups for the show in San Diego. Let us now take a look at the confirmed match card and segments for the -01/17 show.
Tiffany Stratton, the freshly minted WWE Women’s Champion, will defend her title against Bayley on the Blue brand’s January 17 program. Stratton cashed in Nia Jax’s MITB contract at the inaugural SmackDown program in 2025.
Bayley, on the other hand, faced Nia Jax, Bianca Belair, and Naomi in an impromptu fatal four-way match. General Manager Nick Aldis offered the winner a championship chance against the newly minted champion.
Bayley won last week and is now set to face Stratton for the championship. Tiffany will be making her maiden title defense, while Bayley hopes to win the championship for the third time in her career.
Former WWE Tag Team Champions Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin (Motor City Machine Guns) will face Angel and Berto (Los Garzas) on this week’s edition of SmackDown.
In the previous week’s show, Los Garzas beat Pretty Deadly, while Motor City Machine Guns defeated A-Town Down Under. The two teams will now face off to determine the next title contender for the Tag Team championship, which is currently held by Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano (DIY).
