All you need to know about Lia Maivia, the final WWE Hall of Fame 2024 inductee

WWE Hall of Fame is an honor to professional wrestlers and personalities, who had a great legacy in the industry. WWE has been honoring legendary stars by inducting them into the Hall of Fame since 1993. WWE previously announced that Paul Heyman, Bull Nakano, The U.S. Express, Muhammad Ali and Thunderbolt Patterson as the inductees.

However with just days away from the WWE Hall of Fame 2024, WWE officially announced Lia Maivia as the final inductee of the class of 2024. As most would wonder who Lia Maivia is, here is all you need to know about her.

Who is Lia Maivia?

Lia Maivia was an American Professional Wrestling Promoter, who ran Polynesian Pro Wrestling in Hawaii in alliance with National Wrestling Alliance. She is from the Anoa’i wrestling family, being the wife of the “High Chief” Peter Maivia, and maternal grandmother of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

In 1982, after Peter Maivia’s passing, she took over the PPW promotion in Hawaii and ran the company. She was one of the first women wrestling promoters. Maivia ran some of the big pro-wrestling events at the time, one such show was the Hot Summer Night, which grabbed over 20,000 audience in attendance.

A number of WWE Hall of Famers were featured in her promotion, including Andre The Giant, Ric Flair, Rocky Johnson, Dusty Rhodes, Antonio Inoki and more. Although she had initial success, the promotion didn’t turn out well later and closed in 1989.

She died due to heart attack in 2008 at the age of 77, to honor her legacy, The Anoa’i family established the “Lia Maivia Scholarship”.

The Rock on his Instagram posted a video remembering his Grandmother and announced that he will be inducting her into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2024. Rock also said that she was the real Final Boss.The Rock wrote, “I’m honored to announce, that I will be inducting my grandmother, Lia Maivia, into the @WWE Hall of Fame, class of 2024. One of the first ever female promoters of professional wrestling. She was a trail blazer. She was a protector of our family. She was the real Final Boss. @wwe @tkogrp #LiaMaivia #WWEHallOfFame #2024.”
