‘The Empress of Tomorrow’ has been on the sidelines with an injury

WWE star Asuka has been off television for over a year now, but the former multi-time women’s champion is once again making headlines, this time for unveiling a dramatic new look.

‘The Empress of Tomorrow’ took to Instagram recently, sharing a striking photo that showcases her updated appearance. Though she offered no caption, the post sent her fans into a frenzy, fueling speculation that her in-ring return could be closer than expected.

Asuka has not been on WWE TV since Backlash France 2025

‘The Empress of Tomorrow’ has not competed since WWE Backlash France on May 4, 2024, where she and Kabuki Warriors partner Kairi Sane lost the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships to Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair. Shortly after the match, Asuka underwent knee surgery for a long-standing injury, and she’s been recovering ever since.

While no official return date has been confirmed, reports suggest WWE’s creative team has been crafting ideas for her comeback on RAW in recent months.

Known for her ever-evolving look and persona, Asuka’s new appearance hints that she might be preparing for a refreshed character direction.

Over the years, she’s embraced colourful transformations to match shifts in her on-screen roles, and this latest change could mark the beginning of another exciting chapter in her WWE journey.

Currently 43 years old, Asuka boasts an impressive resume in WWE. She is a three-time WWE Women’s Champion, a former NXT Women’s Champion, a former SmackDown Women’s Champion, and a four-time Women’s Tag Team Champion, three of those reigns alongside Kairi Sane as The Kabuki Warriors.

With Sane already back in action following her own injury hiatus, the timing of Asuka’s potential return couldn’t be better.

Sane recently resumed a feud with The Judgment Day’s Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez. Asuka’s comeback could add a much-needed edge to Damage CTRL, especially as the faction finds itself outnumbered and outmaneuvered on RAW.

Monday’s episode of RAW will serve as the go-home show for Money in the Bank, making it a logical moment for Asuka to return.

Fans are speculating that her comeback could lead to a renewed pursuit of tag team gold with Sane. A showdown against current champions Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill could be in the cards, giving Asuka a shot at becoming a three-time Women’s Tag Team Champion.

For now, her latest Instagram post is all fans have to go on, but it might just be the first sign that her return is imminent.
