Brock Lesnar may have delivered what looked like a farewell at WrestleMania 42, but reports suggest his in-ring career might not be over just yet. The former WWE Champion left fans emotional after placing his gloves and boots in the ring following his loss to Oba Femi.
The symbolic gesture, long associated with retirement in combat sports, was followed by a heartfelt moment as Lesnar embraced Paul Heyman and acknowledged the crowd. Chants of “Thank you, Brock” echoed through Allegiant Stadium as he exited, seemingly closing a historic chapter.
WWE further leaned into the moment on the Raw after WrestleMania, airing a video package celebrating Lesnar’s career. Heyman added to the sentiment, stating that Lesnar belongs in the “Forever” category of WWE’s iconic “Then. Now. Forever” intro.
Brock Lesnar’s retirement angle raises questions backstage

Despite the emotional presentation, backstage reports indicate that Lesnar’s status may not be as clear-cut. According to Bodyslam, only a select few within WWE were aware of the gloves-and-boots segment ahead of time.
Many within the company reportedly believed Lesnar’s retirement would come later in the year, potentially at SummerSlam in Minneapolis, Minnesota. That expectation adds intrigue to what appeared to be a definitive send-off at WrestleMania.
Further fueling speculation, Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that the internal belief within WWE is that Lesnar has not officially retired. However, he emphasized the uncertainty surrounding the situation.
“I will only say that based on people in WWE, they believe he’s not retiring yet, although he is retiring at some point probably this year. I don’t know that anyone knows… This might be one of those things where everything is being kept quiet,” Meltzer explained.
Creative changes hint at evolving plans

Another key detail adds context to the situation. Reports suggest that Brock Lesnar’s program with Oba Femi was initially planned as a multi-match feud before being altered into a one-off encounter.
That change resulted in Femi defeating Lesnar in just four minutes at WrestleMania 42, a decisive outcome that surprised many given Lesnar’s stature and typical booking.
The abrupt shift in creative direction may indicate evolving plans for Brock Lesnar’s future, whether that includes a final run, a delayed retirement, or a surprise return later in the year.
For now, the ambiguity appears intentional. WWE has a history of blurring reality and storyline, and Lesnar’s situation may be another example of that approach.
Until an official announcement is made, Lesnar’s status remains uncertain. What is clear, however, is that “The Beast Incarnate” continues to command attention, whether inside the ring or through the mystery surrounding his next move.
