Canelo is going to face Terrence Crawford soon

In a move that could bridge the gap between boxing & professional wrestling like never before, Canelo Alvarez has said that he’s in talks with WWE.

The Mexican boxing icon is currently the Undisputed Super Middleweight Champion and one of the sport’s biggest global stars. Recently hinted at a potential crossover into sports entertainment, joining a prestigious list of pugilists who’ve stepped into the squared circle beyond the boxing ring.

Maybe you will see me in the WWE at some point: Canelo Álvarez

Speaking during a press conference at Fanatics Fest in New York City, where he came face-to-face with Terence Crawford ahead of their highly anticipated bout on September 13 in Las Vegas, Canelo Álvarez was asked whether WWE could be part of his future plans. His response? “We’re talking about it. Maybe… Maybe you will see me in the WWE at some point.”

This statement has sent both wrestling and boxing fans into speculation mode, especially considering the venue for his upcoming fight, Allegiant Stadium. It is the same site that hosted WrestleMania 41 and will do so again for WrestleMania 42.

The fight itself is being promoted under Dana White’s new boxing banner, a TKO Group initiative that links WWE and UFC under one corporate umbrella. So the path between boxing and WWE has never been more accessible.

Many boxing legends have made appearances in WWE

Canelo Álvarez wouldn’t be the first boxer to make the crossover. Legends like Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, Floyd Mayweather Jr., and Tyson Fury have all made WWE appearances, with varying levels of success.

However, Canelo’s move could carry a different kind of weight, especially with WWE recently acquiring Mexican Lucha Libre giant AAA and publicly aiming to strengthen its grip on the Latin American market.

A potential WWE appearance or match involving Canelo Álvarez, especially in a major stadium setting like WrestleMania, would be a blockbuster crossover that taps into Canelo’s massive fanbase and WWE’s push for global expansion.

With the ongoing integration of combat sports under the TKO banner and Alvarez’s worldwide appeal, this crossover doesn’t just feel like a publicity stunt, it feels like a real possibility.

For now, Canelo’s focus remains on Terence Crawford, but after that, the WWE Universe might just be next on his radar.
