Chad Gable claims he gave his boots to El Grande Americano for Money in the Bank 2025 qualifier on WWE RAW

We still don’t know the ‘real identity’ of El Grande Americano
The mystery surrounding El Grande Americano took a hilarious turn this week, as fans pointed out a glaring clue connecting the masked luchador to none other than Chad Gable himself. And now, Gable has responded to the speculation in classic tongue-in-cheek fashion.
On the latest episode of WWE RAW, El Grande Americano, a supposed lucha libre legend, scored a massive upset by defeating both CM Punk and AJ Styles in a Triple Threat Match to qualify for the men’s Money in the Bank ladder match.
Despite the win, fans quickly turned their attention to the masked wrestler’s attire, noticing that Americano was wearing what looked like Chad Gable’s signature wrestling boots.
Photos began circulating on social media almost immediately, fueling speculation that the masked luchador is indeed Chad Gable in disguise.
The theory isn’t exactly new; fans have long suspected the Olympian is behind the mask ever since he debuted the Americano persona earlier this year in a comedic storyline that saw him embrace the “dark arts” of lucha libre.
Faced with mounting “evidence,” Chad Gable addressed the rumors on X (formerly Twitter), writing:
“Really really proud of this guy. Even though I DID have to borrow him my boots (which he stretched out) last night because the airlines lost his. Big day for both of us Saturday, hombre! Good luck!”
The response, layered in kayfabe, plays into the ongoing joke that Gable and Americano are two separate people, despite the obvious similarities. From the identical build and wrestling style to the matching singlet and now the boots, WWE has done little to hide the connection, opting instead to lean into the humor.
While masked alter egos have long been a part of wrestling tradition, from Dusty Rhodes as The Midnight Rider to Brian Pillman as The Yellow Dog, Americano’s disguise is perhaps the least subtle of them all.
Instead of fully reinventing the character’s look, WWE put Chad Gable in a mask labeled “American Made”, a nod to his Alpha Academy roots and let the rest speak for itself.
Chad Gable and El Grande Americano set to compete in two mega matches on the same day
The storyline will come to a head this Saturday in a rare doubleheader for Chad Gable. In the afternoon, he’ll challenge El Hijo del Vikingo for the AAA Mega Championship at Worlds Collide, the first AAA show under WWE’s umbrella.
Later that night, as El Grande Americano, he’ll compete in the high-stakes Money in the Bank ladder match alongside Seth Rollins, LA Knight, Penta, Andrade, and Solo Sikoa.
Whether Gable (or Americano) walks away with gold or a briefcase, fans will be watching closely, especially to see if he’s upgraded his boots.
