Charlotte Flair & Tiffany Stratton are all set to face each other at WWE WrestleMania 41
Charlotte Flair, the winner of the Royal Rumble, and WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton faced off in the ring on “WWE SmackDown” for another war of words, this time moderated by commentator Wade Barrett to keep them from getting physical, but they reportedly did not stick to the script during their promo battle.
Charlotte Flair and Tiffany Stratton got personal on Friday night, cutting a promo on each other as they prepare for WrestleMania 41. What began as a standard back-and-forth rapidly went off script when Stratton mentioned Flair’s recent divorce and Flair implied that she could have Stratton’s real-life lover, Ludwig Kaiser.
Fans have been critical of the buildup to the WWE Women’s Championship bout. A sit-down interview a few weeks earlier drew criticism because Stratton appeared to lose her way during a verbal encounter with the more experienced Flair. Last week, the promotions went slightly better. This week, things got really personal.
Flair discussed how she was performing “charity work” by selecting Stratton as her WrestleMania opponent. She then stated that she intended to demonstrate to the “smartest” wrestling fans that there is no similarity between the two ladies. Stratton answered by stating that Charlotte’s main rival has been the fans. “That’s a battle you’ll never win,” Stratton explained. She then alluded to Charlotte sobbing on a a talk show. Then she claimed Charlotte will always be second to her “daddy, Ric Flair.”
WrestleVotes did not clarify which parts of the segment were directly off script, but it concluded with Stratton mocking Flair’s most recent divorce, calling her “0-3” and stating that after WrestleMania, she will be alone, much like in her personal life.
Stratton slid out of the ring after delivering the statement, but Flair fired one more shot about Stratton’s boyfriend Ludwig Kaiser being “in my DMs.” Flair seems disturbed by the Chicago crowd’s jeers earlier in the promo.
Fans attacked Flair and Stratton’s split-screen interview on the March 21 broadcast of “SmackDown,” claiming Flair intended to bury the title. Some in WWE thought Stratton was put in a “sink or swim” predicament. Prior to the much criticized section, the ladies traded assaults on each other, with Stratton being the last woman standing after knocking down Flair with a moonsault from the top of the apron.
